Kelly was playing on a Ottawa team that was equally as bad as this years Flames team. He was playing on a line with Jarko Ruttu and Neil.
Nobody is going to look at Stempniak and say that he might be the missing ingredient to drive the 3rd line with Ryder and Peverly.

The reason I said they were comparable, not identical, but comparable is for a couple of reasons.
1) Both can play a two-way game and play either side of special teams.
2) Both are of similar size and have a bit of of a physical side to their game.
The differences between the 2 are:
1) Stempniak has more offense to his game than Kelly. (As per their career numbers)
2) Kelly is better defensively and is probably better suited to shut down other teams top lines than Stempniak.
But I think when it comes to value those 2 differences are a wash.
Like I said in my previous post, I'm not sure what Stempniak's value is because I don't know what the market for him is right now, but if I had to pick a recent comparable Kelly would probably be it, and I think it's a very fair comparable.
You're a stats whore.
