Yes, we understand the focus. Konopka is not going to be taking ice away from any of those guys you mentioned. He will be stapled to the 4th line.

This would probably be the worst line in Flames history.

I would love to have Konopka on the Flames if they could send Westgarth to Abby.

A fourth line of Bouma-Konopka-Westgarth would be pretty decent. He's the right kind of truculent.

Oil will take him, he will be their top centre man.

1. His name is Zenon. Which is cool.
2. He plays bigger than his size.
3. He could teach the kids how to win faceoffs

Only thing is; as a sort of Stephane Yelle player, he would be better suited to a contending team that needs a depth player.

Calgary Flames FO%: 45.4. Rank: 30th

Zenon Konopka FO%: 65.7.

You get him for no other reason than that. It will also allow Burke to move one of Stajan or Backlund and still have enough NHL center men.

Claim him, trade Stajan ASAP for pick(s).

Backlund 24
Monohan 19
Colborne 23
Konopka 33

Maybe Z can teach the kids a thing or two about winning draws.

Oilers have Boyd Gordon for the faceoff role. The Sabres and Islanders (both ahead of the Flames on the waiver priority) are both quite weak at faceoffs as well. Maybe Garth Snow brings him back to the Island

Not this again. A) Gaudreau has said he's not signing anywhere else. B) It may have been a legitimate concern that a guy like Feaster wouldn't have the ability or skill to get Johnny under contract, but do you think Burke won't be able to close this kid?

Remember a few years back when the Wild tried to do some 'legion of doom' crap and got Chris Simon and Todd Fedoruk at the deadline to play with Boogaard? What a disaster that was...

I'd rather sign his younger brother, Krypton Konopka.

Yeah, and don't forget some of the younger centres can fill in on the wing. You can never have enough NHL caliber centres.

No thanks. I agree he would be better than Westgarth, but it's too late now. He's good in the face-off circle but being on the 4th line he won't be taking many of them. It would also mean that Colborne gets bumped to the press box. While I haven't been too impressed with Colborne I rather give him the ice-time to see how he develops.

Pick him up and go with the Westgarth/Kenopka/McGrattan 4th line.

Move Backlund to the wing replacing Jones or Stempniak.

Glencross (Byron)/Monahan/Hudler
Backlund/Colborne/Cammy
Bouma/Stajan/Jones or Stempniak
Westgarth/Kenopka/McGrattan

Play the hell out of the top 3 lines.

By the deadline, all of Stempniak, Cammy, Stajan are traded for picks. With the roster room, sign the college guys.

Looking at the Flames' individual faceoff numbers there's a weird little anomaly with Colborne. He's at 55% at home, but only 38% on the road. Hard to believe that having to put his stick on the ice first on the road makes that big a difference in his faceoffs. Don't know if there's anything to read into this, just found it interesting.

If Burke hadn't made the trade for Westgarth I'm sure he'd put in a claim for Konopka. It still wouldn't shock me but I'd say its much less likely now. Even Burke must realize that you can only have so much truculence.

Meh, maybe two years ago this would have been a good thing. Not this year though.

The face off aspect is a valid argument to put in a claim. But at a broken down 33 years old? Probably not.

It tells me that he has the raw skills to be a good face-off man when he has the advantage, but still hasn't figured out how to out-think his opponent on the dot when he doesn't have the advantage. Give him time. I have more confidence in his abilities to win draws over Backlund.
