Didn't they conduct a player poll in the Hockey News a few years ago where they asked where the least desirable city to play in would be- and the top two were Edmonton and Buffalo? If so, poor Linus...

The simple fact of the matter is that there have been numerous comments and rumours surface from discussions with other teams (if they're discussing, then trades are possible) but the repeated refrain is that the Oilers vastly overvalue their assets.
It isn't that players have NMCs. It isn't that the Oilers - and other teams - don't want to make moves. It's that Oilers management have swallowed more of their own hype than even the media have. They refuse to pay the necessary price to get that bold move done.

This is pretty much the reason right there as many hockey people around the league have commented on 960 radio that the Oilers are expecting for far too much for their players. I think when MacT walked in he was under the assumption that teams would be tripping over themselves trying to get in line to trade for their assets. Like the Bruins would phone up and offer Lucic, a 1st round pick, and a prospect for Yakupov. That's just not happening and it's the reason MacT has backtracked because he's probably feels that he needs to hit a home run and teams aren't biting.
The Oilers and their fans seem to be of the believe that if a player is picked 1st overall that on it's own adds value to a player when the only real value that is placed on the player is how good teams think they are. The Oilers were kind of unfortunate in that picking three straight years in a row didn't net a single player of the caliber of Stamkos, Crosby, Ovechkin, Tavares. They ended up with players a tier below and in the case of Yakupov for sure a few tiers below.

Finally! Omark ends up in a club that I don't hate with a passion. He's been working harder than ever this season in the AHL and seems to have gotten a pretty decent attitude adjustment. I hope he finally makes it.
If he doesn't stick now either the doors are always wide open for Linus back home in Luleå.

Does this mean the rebuild has started up in Edmonton?

Not now that the Oilers are doing the picking.

former oiler "blue chip" prospect yields a nothing return, and the sabres may use said prospect to earn more points.

They'll use him. Whether he contributes to a point increase is a crapshoot at best.

He may not put up points for them, but he will increase their pointless spin-o-rama per game average.

The Hockey News = Oilers' director of scouting

They are lucky they got anything for him considering that we went unclaimed on wiavers earlier this season.
A lot of Oilers fans still seem to think he'll break out at some point though.
