why would you do that?
all you need to do is put up some meaningless points for two years, play flashy, and they'll throw a ton of money at you with term and you can just coast.

Oilers are just bad. I don't hate Eakins, but if I am an Edmonton fan (which I am certainly not) I think I would want a coaching replacement.

I don't know if it comes down to the players or if it's coaching
Avs were in the exact same situation last sunday in Vancouver, down 3 nothing with 5 or so minutes left and pushed as hard as they did all game to not get shut out
Oilers just looked like they wanted the clock to run out
it's just 1 game but that's not a good sign for the future of that team

I think I would want some big trades first. Their core 'stars' play like they don't care half the time. Where's the heart? Where's the emotion?
The whole roster needs to be shaken up. Bring in some guys that actually care if they lose and will do something about it. The whole roster just looks like they're coasting through the season.

Yeah, I have noticed the coasting factor too. Something needs to change for sure. Its weird how our probably overachieving team is making more shakeups than their overwhelmingly underwhelming team. I know they just made some changes, but it is evident that it is not enough or not the correct ones.

Maybe some fans, but I check out Oilfans once in a while and the posters there are pretty realistic for the most part. They're not happy with Dubnyk, but they don't like a lot about the team.

I thought Dubnyk was great early on and gave the Oilers a chance early on when the score was only 1-0. Then he let in a couple softies.

Oilers next three games are on the road against Anaheim, LA and Colorado and back home next Saturday against St.Louis.

I was looking at the game thread on HF and most posters were saying Dubnyk sucked and/or should be waived. Shame because I think Dubnyk could be a decent tender on a team with some semblance of defence and with some confidence. I didn't watch the game but looking at the gametracker he was peppered once again with high quality chances.

Dubynk has always impressed me. I think he's actually a good goaltender. I'd take him over our goalies that's for sure.

Nail now -21. He probably won't come close to the record of -82 in one season, but I'm cheering for it.

I dunno about that. I read an interesting comment somewhere about how the guys Edmonton brought in from winning environments with demanding coaches - Perron, Gordon, Ference - seem to be playing just fine, while the guys who've been with the organization for years coast and cash paycheques.
Everything I heard about Eakins before this year said he asks a lot of his teams in terms of effort and responsibility, much like Ken Hitchcock, Claude Julien and Dave Tippett. Maybe the Oilers just can't get used to putting - or don't want to put - the effort in every game, because they've never been asked to before? In that case, punting Eakins and keeping the slackers around would send a horrible message to the team and sink it even further than it is.
Hmm... You're right. Fire Eakins!

Yeah, I live in Edmonton and I've noticed lately the media isn't drinking quite as much of the Kool-Aid as they were even one month ago. The fans, however, have been ready to revolt for quite some time. It's going to be interesting to see what happens between now and the trade deadline.

Great point by Shauger. I saw the gesture and totally blanked on its meaning until he pointed it out. Totally brutal.

Oilers media don't seem too thrilled and I don't blame them TBH
