I think Hextall is a pipe dream, I am pretty sure he has been promised Holmgren's job in the near future.
Shanahan has shown a reluctance to move his family away from the New York area.

I doubt Shanahan is interested in being Burke's puppet.

Not Nieuwendyk or Shannahan. And not another retread.
Someone from an organization that has been through a rebuild and was there for it or from an organization that keeps winning - the usual suspects: Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh, LA, SJ. Someone from those spots could poach additional management talent to fill the Ass't GM role, scouting role(s) and would have deeper insite into that organization's talent pool.

Nieuwendyk scares me just because of how atrocious that Neal + Niskanen for Goligoski deal turned out. His drafting hasn't been impressive either.

In time, Brian Burke will convince to the owners that he himself is the most suitable candidate.

As much as I like Burke I think it would be good if a strong, independent thinking GM were to take the GM role. It's good to have checks and balances.

Burke just said he's prioritizing drafting and scouting talent because it's essential to build contenders.

Dave Nonis .... Where Burke goes Nonis goes. I hope not but burke is a pretty predictable guy. Bring in Nonis, make a big splash by trade, bring in a big no.1 defenseman then hope to God it works.

Probably a long shot, but Ron Hextall anyone? Was AGM during the Kings rebuild, signed on with the Flyers this past summer as AGM and GM of their minor league team.
In a similar manner, what about prying Paul Fenton out of Nashville? Although they are now in a rebuild, they have drafted very well in past years.

I can't believe that I'm saying this, but Pierre McGuire. He seems to like the style that Burke wants. He's been trying to get a GM job for quite a while now. Burke will be there to mentor him. The downside is we probably trade for Phaneuf.

That mental midget Holmgren is a deadman walking. Hextall is to Philly what Feaster was to the Flames when Sutter was here.
Nashville doesn't have the petigree in terms of building a champion, rebuilding into a champion from the depths of the standings or a consistent winner that I'd like to see someone come from.
