If you guys are ever in Canmore, the only joint for Poutine is La Belle Patate. Seriously, do it or forever feel shame for skipping out.

Yeah their fries are pretty nasty. The first two taste good then you get this gross aftertaste that only a bottle of Listerine will get rid of.

McDonalds has had poutine in Quebec for at least 20 years, so they know what they are doing.
I hope they don't keep it on the menu. It is my kryptonite.

The only disgusting thing about going to Costco for poutine is that damn deep-fry smell that permeates that whole area near the cafeteria. That is seriously a gag worthy stench for something that tastes so good.

I just had the traditional (straight up gravy/curds) and it was perfect. Perhaps a little bland out of the gate, but I'd prefer to add my own salt/pepper anyways so a sprinkle of each and it was great.
As for fast food chain poutine... I find Burger King's to be acceptable in a jam. Once in a blue moon if the wife is working and I've got a saturday to myself I'll hit up BK while running errands just for the poutine.

I know what you're saying, but you do realize that Smoke's is a fast food chain as well right?

I had the McDonald's take on poutine last week and much like the rest of the menu, it's not great, but not terrible either.
It does the job if you are jonesing for a poutine fix.

I tried the poutine on Saturday, while I was slightly hungover. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. I would have much preferred just taking their delicious, delicious fries and dunking them in ketchup. It was the gravy that kept them from being good. I find the A&W poutine really good, because I like the gravy and cheese curds. Since A&W switched their fries, the poutine has gone down hill.

This is disappointing. Of all the fine eateries in the world, I was hoping McDonald's would be able to pull of the Canadian classic of a proper and high quality poutine. It really sucks that people don't like it. I was absolutely sure they would pull through and deliver on this culinary masterpiece.

This sarcastic post sums it up. It's fries and gravy with cheese curds. I think people like Poutine more in their minds than they actually do after the first couple of bites where the overwhelming "what the hell am I eating" feeling comes. I know I'm this way ... Poutine is amazing, until it's in front of you and it's fries gravy and cheese curds.
That being said ... don't serve shredded cheese on it and call it Poutine or I'll stab you in the neck with a broken bottle.

The Pint has great Poutine. They've been open in Edmonton for awhile and looks like they just opened a Calgary location. I strongly encourage giving it a try.

The Windsor Rose in Walden has a great take on it. Butter chicken poutine. It's awesome.
Can't recommend a lot of other stuff there though.

Ask for extra gravy on the McD pouter. Makes it a serviceable alternative that is available far too easily, and yet can then combine the post-Mcd sickness with the proper amount of post-poutine shame.

The gravy sucks. Too runny.
Cheese and fries, McD's knows how to do that part properly!
