I still think that one of the major hollywood studios should swoop in and buy the city for the song and use it as a massive movie set.
People could continue to live there and be used as indentured movie extras for whatever movie they're shooting in exchange for rent breaks.
But you could film every kind of movie there and probably for cheap if you owned it.
