Man oh man, how can you hate The Tea Party?!

Saw them once with a full 90 piece orchestra and an East Indian section. Amazing!

I will admit Jeff Martin's solo project was not that great and I haven't heard anything interesting since they got back together. But back in the day? A very underrated band.
I found they took themselves WAY too seriously. It's just rock n roll boys, lighten up!

Haha, this may be a weird reference...but John Corbett's character from the movie Serendipity always reminded me of Jeff Martin

I saw Usher last November in cherrana, he was fantastic. His solo stuff is better than Moist's music, but I like a few Moist songs.

I actually like the Tea Party, but they did seem a little full of themselves. I saw them live in Gimli and they were great, but the singer did try to act a little too much like JM (he claimed to be on acid, but I doubt he was).

Also, I saw them live in a little bar in Kenora Ontario just as they were becoming popular and the singer made some remark about how after that night they wouldn't have to be playing crappy venues any more. They also cancelled the other show they had scheduled later in the summer.

Granted, I know that they were gaining enough steam to move up from bar venues to actual concerts, but the insult was kind of unnecessary.

Eh I always enjoyed Moist when I had a chance to catch them perform. Much like Sloan I never really went out of my way to see them play, but anytime I did catch them live they played a pretty solid show. Always seemed like they enjoyed being on stage.

Will I go out of my way to see a Moist reunion show? No. But if I should happen across one I'm sure it'll be solid.

I think this is where I stand. After seeing this thread yesterday, I listened to a few songs on my way to work, and found they didn't hold up all that well. But I also remember how solid they were live.

So I probably won't buy tickets, but if someone called me that day to say let's go, I most likely would.

Oh yeah, Jeff Martin definitely has a bit of an ego, but most leads do, and I'd suggest any good lead (or band) has the right to. I mean, compared to the escapades of bands in the 70's, the bands we are used to are small potatoes in terms of their attitudes.

And he definitely thought of himself like Jim Morrison for a while. In fact their first album, before Edges of Twilight, I forget what it was called, (looked it up, Spender Soils) that seemed to be the exact sound they were going for. Thank god they evolved and found their own sound. He still carried on that persona a bit though.

Funny you'd mention this. The only Moist show I ever attended was a joint tour between them and Matthew Good Band in 1999 (perhaps early 2000). I didn't go for them, but was very impressed by the show they put on. Some bands just have a really good live energy. They began their "hiatus" shortly thereafter and I never got to see them again, which always bugged me.

One of the best shows I've ever seen was Moist on the Coke stage in July 1998. The energy and vibe were just incredible - even though I agree most of their songs are pretty average on the radio, they really seemed to come alive on the stage and you could tell the band was ACTUALLY into it, not just the typical "you guys are the best crowd ever" crap that every band spews at every show in every city they play in. Halfway through the set it started raining even though the sun was still out and it was like 30 degrees. There was so much steam coming off the crowd that you could barely see the stage, but it almost felt like the band was part of the crowd. Amazing show.

^^^ Was at that one. Great show. David even came out from the protection of the stage to get wet with the crowd. Did he crowd surf briefly?

He didn't crowd surf that I remember, but I sure did.

David and the lead guitarist were right up at the edge of the stage during the rainstorm though, reaching into the crowd and high-fiving people. Definitely a great show.

I was a big fan of their music in the day, but it was easily forgettable and hasn't stood up.

However, those videos did bring back vivid memories of sitting with MuchMusic on for hours, waiting for the video to come up in the rotation. Kids today have no idea of the patience we needed growing up.

I'll admit, listening to the B-side of Silver the other day, I still enjoy it as much as I used to. Never was a big fan of the radio singles, though.

I was always a big Moist fan. Still listen to them today and find their music has held up well. Really liked Mercedes Five and Dime. Solid album. I would take Moist anyday over 90% of the crap that is playing on the radio today.

I remember Mercedes Five and Dime being the album I really thought was a great turning point for them. Would've been interesting to see what would have happened on that trajectory.

I didn't mind Moist. I think Resurrection was my favourite song from them. I wonder if Treble Charger is still around. I remember catching one of their shows at Cove, and we had to listen from the food court above because we were underage and couldn't get in.

They announced they were getting back together last year. But from what I've heard it was a pretty underwhelming return, and ended up just being 3 or 4 shows in and around Toronto.

At Max Bell by any chance? I went to see MGB and was peeved that Moist (who I even liked) closed it down, but they kicked arse. That was a great show.

I'd go see Moist. Why not?

You bet. If I recall they took turns that tour opening and closing.

During an aggressive room cleaning I accidentally threw away papers that had my ticket in the pile. Ended up having to buy an $80 ticket off the Bronco scalper. Hated giving that loser money.
