Good signing by the Sox.
As mentioned in the Jays thread about Fister this is another one that I am surprised the Jays weren't in on considering the price.
I think this is a better option than Navarro and Pierzynski would have been a better fit for the Jays. But perhaps he had some choice in the matter.

Good for Kazmir. Went from being an allstar to playing independent ball and now back in the big leagues.

Looks like the Tigers are closing in on a 2 year deal with Joe Nathan.

Rays trade for Ryan Hanigan. Looks like a pretty Rays esque move. Bad year but decent overall past numbers. Great at throwing out runners which we struggled at last year. We have some Reds fans on here any insight?

The Rangers acquire OF Michael Choice and INF Chris Bostick from Oakland for OF Craig Gentry and RHP Josh Lindblom. More info: http://atmlb.com/1hwcKbO
I don't really know anything abut Choice or Bostick... anyone?

Michael Choice was at one time a highly touted prospect - haven't heard much of him the past few seasons. Believe he was even a top 10 pick, could be mistaken however.

Choice is a big power bat but hasn't developed like the A's had hoped.
Ellsbury has signed with the Yankees. Sounds like 7 years worth 153 mill.

How could you do that. I get that they offer a lot of cash but you would feel so dirty

Whats with Boston centerfielders running off to New York for the money? First Damon and now Ellsbury.
Was a busy day yesterday in the MLB - was fun to watch.

Looks like JPA will be playing for Texas next year.

Arencibia will presumably back up Geovany Soto in Texas. Arencibia hit just .194/.227/.365 in 2013 and is unlikely to ever hit for much of an average, but with his power, he can be effective if he bats above .215 or so, as he did in 2011 and 2012. He has 62 home runs in the past three seasons, and hitting in Arlington should help him add to that total.

Risky and illogical baseball move but a necessary overpay. The club needs a reset for the fanbase to avoid irrelevance. It is a pyrrhic victory to outbid the Yankees...by 70 million...but very satisfying. From a business perspective, it won't hurt the bottom line. I am no longer on the fence about renewing my seasons tix.
Cano will be the first domino now. They still have $50 million to spend if they want to equal their '08 payroll of $125m not even adjusting for MLB inflation and the new RSN money coming in '14.
Rumours now move towards David Price for Taijuan Walker/an Ackley/Franklin PLUS. Not a fan of that at all and would rather overpay again for another outfield bat and SP.

Is there something I am missing, or did you mean FSN?
I don't mind the Mariners going out and getting Price, makes a filthy 1/2 with Felix from both sides of the mound, and have Iwakuma as your 3. There isn't a better three in that division, and maybe not even in the American League. If you are going to splurge on Cano, you may as well keep going by trading away some prospects to compliment the thin top tier of players there. I know what you are saying, Walker looks to be a top of the rotation starter, and I really enjoyed watching Franklin play last year - but you don't go get Cano and hold tight for the farm system to catch up.
I am just not sure that the timing for all this is right, similar to you I think.

The lack of a deal with Cano will come back to bite the Yankees in the ass.
They'd overpay for Ellsbury but not for Cano? Makes no sense to me.

RSN=Regional Sports Network (Mariners have controlling interest in Roots Sports giving them 2 billion over the next 17 years....supposedly).
Mariners aren't close to contention probably thru 2015 so unless they can extend Price beyond the 2 years left of control, Walker et al are too much to give up for essentially a rental.
Might as well give Walker and Paxton a chance to develop as your 4/5 this year with an overpay for a Santana or even Colon as a solid 2/3 in the near term. Heck if Tanaka only costs 20 million to post plus a $100 million contract, I would do that than make TB good for another decade at the M's expense.
