He's been the GM for 17 years so they might have just wanted to get a fresh start.

I can understand firing Rolston, but Regier too? Wow. That's stupid if you ask me. One of the best GMs

LaFontaine says he is searching for the next GM and in the meantime will work with current assistant GM.

Could Burke be a candidate?

If Katz was smart, he would fire his entire management team and hire Regier. That guy can spin gold with very little resources.

When it comes to running his hockey team Katz is functionally ######ed so the right move here won't happen.

He made good trades but the results are what they are. Regier had to go. Can't believe Nolan is back coaching in the NHL though.

Regier has a history of pulling off decent trades when you look at them in isolation, but he has failed in putting together teams with chemistry that can actually win. The last few years, budget hasn't been an issue either...It was time for him to go I think.

Regier in Edmonton would make too much sense; however, sense is something Edmonton seems to have none of. And besides, according to Lowe, they know how to win already, so they're fine.

Having seen what's gone on with the Oilers on his watch, I don't think Katz is very smart.

It's too bad Feaster isn't going to be let go, because Regier would definitely be an upgrade for the Flames.

He's made some good moves, but he's made some bad ones too. The team is where it is and he was in charge of that.

On a side note, I wonder if the new GM is going to clean house and would be willing to deal Myers...

Well, color me surprised.

I've always liked Regier as a GM, has had some excellent drafts and made some great trades, but he was never able to pull it all together. The best teams assembled on his watch basically came together by luck (06 and 07) and it was his failings that made them fall apart.

Good GM, but it was time for a culture shift from top to bottom. I don't think Darcy will be jobless for long.

Another team moving to the model the Jackets, Oilers, Flames, Avs have gone with a President of hockey Ops and GM. Appears to be the future of hockey management

Regier makes good trades but bad signings. That was his downfall
