We will have to agree to disagree, but I would argue that you're out of touch, I won't disagree with you that especially in this century there have been completely un-neccessary wars. However those have nothing to do with the concept of remembrance day or veterans day.

What your talking about and the video are talking about is off point with the meaning of the day.

I'm all onboard with the whole concept of what if the leaders through a war and nobody showed.

However I will argue that there is also the concept of justified conflict, one of which a very good board member took part in and we tend to forget that sometimes war in its most horrible form becomes a necessary thing. (Though I argue that WW2 would have been a much briefer concept and probably less bloody and generational destructive if conflict would have been an earlier option.

thats really awesome that they did that in Saskatoon and incorporated it into the suburb - get the feeling you'd never see that in Britain....

Vulcan, you're just trying to be offensive and argumentative - go put your white poppy on.

I'm sure when it started in 1919 and the sheer loss of life was still entrenched in everybody's mind it was meant as solemn occasion. But now it reeks of patriotism and gallantry. Gold-trimmed flags, polished metals, freshly pressed uniforms. It's a big blusterous show of jingoism.
The whole white poppy controversy is also evidence. Even if you don't realize it, the poppy is a huge national symbol. A Canadian poem that appears on our currency. The white poppy doesn't have any patriotic implications.

People are easily fooled by what is a deliberate propaganda trick, ages old.

Have people focus on the bravery of the soldiers, and eventually this drowns out most if not all of the criticism on the reasons of fighting.

- Soldiers are brave -> being a soldier is good
- Soldiers are brave -> you can't criticize soldiers
- Soldiers are brave -> you can't criticize people who go abroad to kill people for political reasons they probably don't know, and wouldn't care about if they did
- Soldiers are brave -> you must support them -> you must support the people who support them -> you must support people who want to shove more money into the war...

And so on and so on.

Similarly, drumming up the "war is hell" angle is a very convenient excuse for breaking international treaties and human rights treaties, and a convenient excuse as to why it's "pointless" to look into various war crimes done by your own soldiers, or in many cases, even try to properly stop them from committing those crimes in the first place.

So no, 'Lest We Forget' is just fine.
I think both are very appropriate
