It isn't a stat in Ontario.

When I was a kid it used to be a day off school, but I don't know if it was a school holiday or stat holiday. One year it was decided that school would go ahead and there would be a service held in the gym. I do recall hearing that the meaning was being lost ("it had become a day off") and by holding classes and and a service in school it was a better reminder.

I'm not sure how getting a "hot stone massage" fits in to the meaning of the day.

I had a client email me last night and wanted some work done this morning. I think I was very diplomatic about telling him there was no way I was looking at it before late this afternoon at the earliest.

Didn't they get a ton of horrible press about it and have to change it? or is that a different offensive promotion they had?

I am at home but just assumed we had it off. Fairly certain we do but didn't double check with anyone at work. I guess I will find out if we didn't when I go in tomorrow.

Did you manage to type that out while you were at one of the ceremonies today?

I am glad some people marked the solemn occasion by checking CP and replying about how more righteous they are in their observance.

You don't think it's a bit hypocritical to be spending your time on a forum calling out people for not spending the day how you think they should? How is that better or worse than anyone else who didn't spend the morning at a ceremony?

This is an important day and I don't have a lot of time for people who take it for granted.

I recently opened my own shop. It's a small shop, but a shop nonetheless. I am closed for business today, and I am setting an extra day at Christmas as well.

I came into the office after 11:00 because I wanted to spend some time with my kids, talk to them about Remembrance Day, and I always try to take a few moments at 11:00 to reflect on the significance of the day. I'm doing admin stuff today, but closed for business.

Today is a day that makes me sad and angry, for a number of reasons. He choices to get a massage on a day like today, I dislike that. I choose to spend the morning with my kids, I find that helps, the the service and the more time with my kids. They play I sit on the computer a bit, we play or read together.

I have a number of reasons to be hypersensitive. The latest is that the vaccination given to me 20 years ago by the military was contaminated with mad cow disease.

I know I have earned the right.......

Unfortunately, we don't get Remembrance Day off in Ontario. Fortunately, I happened to be working at Parliament Hill today and managed to sneak out for a little while to go to the Remembrance ceremony. It was quite a sight seeing several construction sites in the area totally shut down for a little while as workers stood in silence to observe.

Unfortunately one of the freedoms our veterans fought for is the freedom for bosses to be dicks. Business should be open if they choose.

I am fortunate to work for a company that honours Remembrance Day. My company is pretty awesome in general.
