To be fair, there really are not that many people from Las Vegas that live in Vegas. It's mostly people that have moved there to work in the hospitality/entertainment industry. So really, I'm not sure anyone that even lives there would be loyal to the home town...

So they would be like the Washington Generals of the NHL. Someone to play against the real attraction.

I actually know quite a few people who have lived in Vegas their whole life with families etc. There is a surprisingly large permanent community for such a transnational city, don't let all the tourists/singers/people looking for performing arts careers fool you.

The obvious scheduling end-game for the NHL is 32 teams.

Would you leave Ferland and Sheahan in the minors? I think they would fit in well with the boys.

3pm morning skates/practices on non-game days?
Maybe there's even a place for Rob Ford in the front office, I'm sure he's seen his fair share of leafs hockey, enough to be considered a 'hockey mind' with a flair for wild side. He'd be right at home.

The NHL already has a Washington generals. They're 3 hours north of Calgary.

While attendance is obviously a good thing to have, the real money that separates big market from small market is TV dollars. I'm not so convinced that a Vegas-based team could generate much in the way of TV dollars because of the transitory nature of the market.

Rising unemployment, floundering ecomony, more locals work nights than days, gambling issues for players, relying on tourism for ticket sales... Yeah, Vegas seems like a great place for a team.
Saskatchewan gets an expansion team and Phoenix gets a second team before you see an NHL team in Vegas.

Put hockey teams where there are hockey fans (ie. Quebec/Ontario), not where it becomes a sideshow and a joke. If Vegas was such a great place for team sports, you'd think one of the other 3 leagues would already be there.

So Vegas has abonded the plans for Silver State Arena then? Or are there gonna be two 20,000 seat arenas built?
It looks better than the MGM one

Good to see it is located near the strip. That is what it needs for success, make it easy to get to the game from the hotels. I also like how some of the renders are blurry, exactly how I remember Vegas.

Don't worry, our arena is really far along and Ken King really likes it.
