So the money towards this only goes to awareness, and not actual research? That seems like a bit of a shame....awareness campaigns for well-known diseases always seems like a bit of a waste if the money isn't actually going to finding a cure.

Actually a lot of the money does go to research. They report where all the money goes on the Movember website - from a quick look at where the Canadian dollars go, it seems to me that research is the biggest beneficiary, with mental health also getting a significant chunk.

This isn't to disparage anyone participating, but I laughed out loud at that comedian who was talking about Movember, and was discussing how you actually do less when you get up in the morning than you normally would.

He was like "You know the phrase "It's the least you could do"?. "Well, participating in Movember is literally less than that".

Gotta say, I appreciate that the guys are growing the staches for a good cause, but I can't wait until the players shave them. On some it looks natural, but some look pretty gross.

What percentage to they spend on Administration and Fundraising expenses. Unless I see that prominantly located in information I do not donate.

That said I like to grow a mustache in November to promote awareness. Awareness for Mens cancers likely saves lives as Men generally don't go to the doctor as much as women and early detection is key. So generally I hate awareness campaigns I think things like the Man Van going around are very positive as part of the Movember festivities.

And let me tell you I was disappointed with my trip to the Man Van. I was all excited to go and all I got was a blood test.

5th year overall, and second year representing in the UK. I also think raising awareness is just as important as raising money. Anyone who asks me about it gets a spiel about how we should all have regular checks by our GP, and if they get one it is all worth it. Makes me wonder if it would have made my Uncle think twice back in the day.

Anyway, bring on the 'taches (as they say here). Godspeed everyone else taking part. If anyone wants to donate to me send me a PM.

As a survivor of one of the types of cancer Movember raises funds to support awareness and research for I actively participate every year. It's greasy but it's for a good cause.

I have $5 donation and that was from me. I made little business cards to hand out and tons of people do the "I'll help out" but they just say that to shut you up

If I donate here in Canada so I can get a tax receipt, am I still able to have it go to your totals? Or is my donation going to stay in Canada because of the tax receipt issue?

I haven't made my Movember donation yet, so I'm happy to send it your way, but I need to get the tax receipt for it (for obvious reasons).

You should be able to get a receipt, Everyone I've donated for it brings up a "download receipt" icon.

EDIT

You get this via email too
