Talbot has a lot of playoff experience and is a veteran sand paper type player, good addition for Colorado. But at the cost of Downie ? 7 points in 11 games... playing well for them, has to be something else here.

Downie has 7 points in 11 games, Talbot has 2 in 11.

I'm confused as to where Holmgren plans to find the 800,000 or so dollars in cap space...

I'd bet there is something behind the scenes. Roy breaks up one of the best lines in hockey featuring Duchene and Downie a couple days ago despite the team playing well, then he gets traded?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Talbot a centre? If so, perhaps this is a prelude to Colorado trading a centre for some help on D.

Damn, would've liked Talbot on the Flames. Not a big point producer but I've always liked his game, even since leaving a fairly stacked Penguins team.

Some Avs fans speculating that Downie was not happy being demoted out of the top 6.

Talbot is a gamer. If the Avs are looking to make a play in the playoffs, he's a good guy to have on the team.

Poor guy, his center on the third line was some plug named MacKinnon...
Parenteau moves up to play with Duchene, so that is an upgrade on Downie. Talbot can be a useful bottom 6 guy. Still not a huge fan of the trade

The Flyers never stop tinkering and while this looks good on paper the team seems to get worse and worse as they keep making changes.

Maybe Downie wanted to go back to philly for personal reasons or he wanted to plan another vegas trip but Patty wasn't having any of it or maybe the altitude got to him.

Hmmm, this Varlamov situation is drawing attention to the team. Let's divert the attention from the legal issues by making a trade!

Like that frame of mind.
If a guy is going to whine and pout, ship him out.
Burke actually said something similar in his press conference at Flames Fest.
Flyers top 9 is pretty crazy though.

Players should be upset when they are demoted/benched/scratched. But it sounds like Downie may have thrown a tantrum.

I think Lecavalier is playing with Giroux right now, isn't he?
Anyway, this very well could be a precursor to a C being traded. Which, if it is, I like it in theory from Sherman. If it's O'Reilly out the door, talk about selling high.

That's very true... They were a perennial contender before they shipped out Richards and carter to make room for the big signing of a goaltender who can't even play in Vegas now. I think how much better this team would be if they had kept those proven guys instead of trading for picks and kids. I think schenn and couturier are good players who are still developing but I think their ceiling might be at best what carter and Richards already are... So they traded away guys who are proven performers for prospects that may or may not reach their potential. I know they also got solid wingers like Simmons in the deal but they were the kinds players that they could have gotten while holding onto Richards and carter.

I don't think they are able to trade O'Reilly since it hasn't been a year from when they matched the calgary offer.

Bizarre trade for Colorado. I like Talbot, when he is playing well, but Downie was fitting in very well.

Well, no, they couldn't, because they traded Richards and Carter for those players. I would note that one of those players is Jake Voracek, who is at least as valuable right now as either of Richards and Carter. I'd re-do Richards and Carter for Simmonds, Voracek, Schenn and Couturier right now. Those two trades weren't bad at all, that's not the cause of their problems. Most of their issues have been the result of decisions in free agency (Bryzgalov being the most obvious) combined with Nashville matching the Weber offer sheet and Chris Pronger getting hurt.
