How long until people around here realize that Kiprusoff's don't grow on trees?
Indeed. But I've been calling this for years: A lot of the people who demanded a rebuild simply have no patience for one. They just want quick fixes. And if Berra comes up and does no better, Vinny1 will be right back here with a new thread demanding we trade for a goalie.

The Leafs are in the habit of being outshot and still winning while making goalies look bad. Granted Ramo didn't look great but it's not time to panic.

We'd better not throw Gillies to the wolves either though.
This team really needs Ekblad.
I don't think either MacDonald or Ramo have been thrown to the wolves. Sure the Flames blueline as a group, especially with Giordano out, are bad but the team plays a good two-way game with forwards committing to defense, those two just aren't good enough.
Hard to get mad though, wasn't excited about either guy heading in but I think most of us saw bad goaltending from the start.

This isn't a season where we need a goalie performing right away. It's the perfect season to give a guy like Ramo 40 games to see if he's really ready to be an NHL goalie. Hell, I'd be OK giving ramo/berra the reigns next year as well. After that, if it's not working, we might need to look at an upgrade.
I want to be competitive vs the Oilers and Canucks, other than that I want to see some hard work and exciting games. Tonight was a good example.
I think very few goaltenders would put up good numbers on this team.
I think that's kinda stupid because if you look at the game tonight (and most nights) even Devan Dubnyk would have a 9.50 save percentage. The goaltending is the weakest part of our team right now and it's mostly because it's so inconsistent from game to game, period to period, or even shot to shot.

It's funny because Oiler fans think this about their team as well, but most of us feel different.
Our team defence is bad. When you have Butler on your top pair, we could have a young Patrick Roy in Gillies and we wouldn't even know it.
Gillies could be 5 years away. I just think the Flames should move on from MacDonald as soon as a deal can be worked out and run with the 2 younger guys. I didn't realize Berra was pulled tonight I have only heard great things about him when award is on the FAN

I think the overall team defense from forwards to defensemen and goalies are all a major problem for this team.
The forwards have been somewhat better this year based mainly on their effort and willingness to block shots but overall defensive awareness is still lacking for the most part.
I think blaming the goaltending, which I agree isn't good enough, is letting the other players in front of them off the hook.
You put Devan Dubnyk in there tonight and there is a good chance the score is the same as he may not have let in the JVR goal but a good chance he lets in a different stinker in. That is what bad goalies do when facing NHL talent.

The Leafs will come down to earth before the season is over.

Wrong, our "team" defense is actually quite good, but our defensemen are bad. Brodie, Butler, O'Brien have all been sub par in their own zone and especially with turnovers. The forwards have all contributed very well to the defense and have rarely made a bad turnover. The goaltending has also been subpar overall with the odd nice game here and there. You saw in Dallas what happens when the "team" defense falls apart…goalie hung out to dry with a weak defense group in front of him.
I really have no idea what the Oiler fan comment is all about. Dubnyk is still a better goalie than either of ours, which isn't saying much.

So we have a terrible bottom pair. Wideman and Russel have been great this year. Gio was fantastic and Brodie a bit up and down. With Gio out Butler in the top4 really stings but I think goaltending is the problem

Based on what?
How many times have we complained the last two years about goalies being left out to dry? Guys being left open in the slot? Awful pinches leading to odd man rushes and guys lying on the ice while the opposition waits for them to slide by and goes right around them?
The team defense definitely needs work and guys need to be a lot better at identifying which guy is theirs especially when coming back in transition.

I actually like our 2 way play, It's our lack of depth on defence in where the problem is. Butler and SOB should not be given more ice time in an effort to replace Gio's minutes.

Last two years have little to do with the last 12 games.

Based solely on my many years of watching hockey. Good teams, bad teams, what teams do well and don't do so well and why. I don't need to justify my opinion and observations to you. Something that you would likely say to me if I asked you the same question.
Now be gone.
