I liked Connor, he reminded me a lot of Altair, who's my fav assassin of the series to date. I just like the idea of an assassin being more stoic & introverted, as opposed to James Bond suave. But I know he was very hit & miss with a lot of people, especially Ezio fans, who was the polar opposite in terms of personality. And given how it appears Connor's a one & done, it seems the masses have spoken.

A long time ago I picked up a bundle at FutureShop that had AC, AC2 and AC2 Brotherhood.
I played through 1, started 2 then quickly got stuck and abandoned it.
I had a bit of time off the second half of November (probably about a week after the final post in this thread) and decided to give it another try. I completed 2, Brotherhood, and picked up Revelations. I started Revelations but kind of lost my interest. I think I'm just AC-ed out for a bit.
So is the consensus to skip 3 and go straight to 4?

Yes, 3 was fun, but the best part about 3 (ship battles) is a huge part of 4.
The worst part about 3 is the main character, always so angry and annoying. Really takes away from the story line.

I bought it and I'm having a really hard time with the game play. The fighting and free running features have enraged me too many times.
I think I'll give it another hour or so but if I can't get a better feel, it's a trade in...
Sorry dude, it's beautiful to look at and the history part is awesome, but the core execution lacks for me.

My ship is loaded, has all the functional upgrades to weapons and hull armor and ammo storage.... Hell I'm loving the ship part of the game so much I even spent a bunch of money on superficial #### like sail colors and ship wheels.
Meanwhile other than health and a sword upgrade, my guy could be running around in a burlap sack.
The game as a whole is fun, but the ship part of the game is just fantastic... I think the last AC game I actually played was a bit of 2, but I'll be fully completing AC4.

Yep. The Ship battles aspect of this game is spectacular. The rest of the game is like every other AC game. Climb the eagles nest open up maps, do quests and yada yada. But the Ship thing is awesome and fun.
Hopefully they'll come up with some new maps and ship upgrades as an expansion deal. The mini games are a good place to start. Can cover the entire atlantic seaboard.

Did anyone else find this game really boring? Too many cutscenes, too much following too much listening and waiting around. I like constantly awsome gameplay without waiting around half the time.

I'm pretty early into playing the game and it's the first Assassin's Creed game I've played, but I'm really, really enjoying it. The ship stuff is a ton of fun.

Just started playing this. So much better than ac3 so far.
I'm not crazy about the ship battles, because I suck at them, but Edward is so much more likeable than Connor, and the setting is more interesting (visually).
I'm not too far into the story, so I can't comment on that aspect, but it seems more interesting than ac3 as well.

Looks like the limited collector's edition is on clearance for $50. Kind of tempting but not really interested in the extras.

IMO it's the best AC game to date as the ship combat as well as fleet management is really fun. The rest of the game suffers from the same issues of other AC games in that it's full of repetitive play and personally I find the missions where you have to follow and keep in range of conversations tedious and boring as well as assassinations contracts which don't offer up much of a challenge. Still though if you can stick with the game it is pretty rewarding and there is a lot to do so you can definitely get your money's worth.

Great game, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Life's really getting in the way so it's taking me awhile to get through (usually only have time for an hour or so to play, and pirate free roaming is so fun that I forget to even do a mission half the time), but I'm finally getting close to the end I think. Map is beautiful and I love how seamless it is from land to ship. And thank Jebus they brought back ambient music, makes such a difference during free roam.
My only complaint is when in cities on rooftop, combat has gotten way too easy again. Much preferred III for this, it actually enticed you to use stealth. I know many on the internets whined III somehow dissuaded rooftop movement for this reason (saying it was too hard). I think thats garbage, they just need to work on not sucking, and learn to use the sight-lines of pointy colonial roofs to their advantage. Anyway, IV is a lot of fun.
One question though, when do you get the rope dart? I realize I've done a ton of side stuff which is probably inflating my over-all completion % and makes it seem I'm further into the game than I probably am. But I'm 71% done and still haven't got it yet. Is it earned from an achievement or something?

You get it very close to the end. I think in the one of the last 2 sequences. Which was kind of a bummer because you never really got to utilize it in the game very much before the end. It does make things a whole lot easier though, so maybe that's why.

You don't get the rope dart until very late in the story missions

Thanks guys. That's lame they give it to you that late, aside from naval and tree running, the rope dart was probably the coolest addition in III. Never got sick of hanging lobsterbacks and watching them squirm.
