Roy is the right coach for the job right now. He shouldn't have to say anything, just walk in the room. They should be looking at him and saying that's Patrick ####ing Roy!! I'll go through the wall for him.

They get out shot and pretty much outplayed most of the nights, when the goaltending goes back to normal they will have a hard patch, though I think they are playoff bound.

I said last year that there was too much talent on that team for them to be that bad. I guess one just has to look at the coach to answer why they sucked so bad. I call shenanigans but it is what it is now.

Good team, will be in the playoffs but will bow out quickly when the going gets tough.

No, not for real. Goaltending and shooting percentage will regress to the norm. When it does the team will cool and tumble down the standings.

This is the third year I remember thinking this and the other two the weren't for real, so I'm sticking with that. As others have said, if you get outplayed night after night, you'll get lucky and won a few sure, but it will catch up with you. I foresee a lengthy losing streak in November.

So if they play amazing and then fall to the "norm" won't that mean they'll play as well or as bad as everyone else? I mean they're the best team now, if they cool off and play like everyone else then they'll still be the best team because of the lead they have. Unless you're saying they will start playing bad or worse than everyone else.

I think they have a tallented team and a coach who believes in what they can do.

Kinda funny that our coach's most successful period was when he was coaching the now most successful coach.

The new goaltending coach has done wonders for Varlamov. I don't think they will keep up this pace, but i do think they will make the playoffs.

.500 hockey the rest of the way would get them very close to a playoff spot. It is amazing what one solid, sustained 10 game streak can do for a team.

45-37 is 90 points. That's 36-36 the rest of the way with no loser points....shouldn't be too tough for them to make it.

Minnesota is a team that should trend in the opposite direction. They're outplaying almost every opponent and just not getting rewarded for it.

Bad teams are bad teams, though. Remember when the Flames started the season 13-2-2-2 in 2001-02? They still missed the playoffs by 15 points.

Edmonton had a great start that season, too, and also missed (though only by a point or two). Rangers also.

Standings on Nov. 17, 2001:

Avalanche will fall out of favour once that save percentage goes down to average levels.

Without all the injuries they suffered over the last couple of seasons and without Sacco, they have a shot at making the playoffs.

But, a powerhouse they ain't. Expect their stellar goaltending to revert to the mean at some point, leaving them as one of the teams fighting for the final playoff spot in the West.

Didn't Minny go on a tear last year as well to start the season? I think they're a playoff team, but they're not a powerhouse team. Not yet anyways. They do have a lot of pieces to become one in a few years (unlike the Oilers).

When it comes to hockey, there is only one thing that Patrick Roy knows how to do and that's win. I don't care what his role on the team is (and I don't think he does either).

So three teams out of ten? My point stands, they're for real.

on what planet does 90 points make the playoffs...especially with the overall dominance against the east. Its gonna take near 100

29.6

33.4

4.19%
Opponent Team Shooting Percentage

They've been outplayed and out shot for the entire season. Check those shooting percents also, I'd imagine it will come down, whilst the opponent team shooting percentage will rise a bit. I don't think they are for real, well they are for real, but not 9-1 real.
