I think Eller might be right after watching the last 5 minutes. (only oil hockey I've seen this year)
That was some brutal d-zone play. No system I could see at all.

Now it almost makes sense.

Gagner is a decent player but he's also a weakling. Boyd Gordon is a third liner being pushed up the lineup because of lack of depth.

I'm undecided on Justin Schultz. He has elite offensive skills, but when he doesn't have the puck he actually hurts your team.

the Oilers have a huge gap. Outside of their number one picks they haven't drafted well. And they didn't make great use of the number one picks to build any kind of organizational structure.

On top of that their GM's have done a lousy job of building any kind of team.

Their top 4 isn't going to be enough to propel this team to the playoffs any time soon. I would almost expect that its going to be another 4 years and a complete change in philosophy for them to get back to a playoff spot unless a miracle happens.
Basically what I'm saying is a alright team with 3 straight first overalls and many top 10 draft picks the team is terribel

The Oilers are in trouble if they need some scrub from Montreal to insult them in order to play hard.

Media making a big deal out of this comment (read: Craig Button is blowing hot air). Funny thing is, no one has disagreed. Stupid oilers.

If Eakins is this coaching Genius and he needs a player from the opposing team to inspire his squad, then the Oilers are worse off than I thought.

Really, he's just saying what we all observed. They pull a lot of junior moves in a game, like Hall and Yakupov's one on three into the zone, or those stupid toe drags that more often than not results in a turnover.

Lars Eller is far removed from a scrub, he'd likely be the second best player on the Flames going forward (yes better than Sven).

Gritty, offensively talented forwards like Eller are hard to come by. I expect big things from him someday.

Oh yeah forgot, Oilers suck, and I like Eller even more for telling it like it really is.

Yeah he should have just said that the comments were unfortunate and left it there. To say that it was a gift and provided motivation kind of implies that he can't get the job done on his own to motivate the team. Not very smart which is surprising given all the hype that came out of Toronto about him being a bright hockey mind.

His comments about Eller were so limp and meandering, too. Really poor trash talk. Dork.

Had the Canadiens had a healthy lineup this might have worked perfectly. Bad timing by Eller!
