People forget that Bryz basically quit on his team last year, he basically moped and whined and cried and said I'm not playing.

He didn't back it up on the ice, he had a bad attitude, and he fell apart under the pressure of the Flyer's goaltending pressures. How's he going to do with a young team that's going to make lots of mistakes?

We have enough goalies in our system, we don't need a NHL cast off taking away evaluation time and development time.

Goaltending isn't the problem with the Flames. The Flames are a below average team in every position. Being in the first year of a rebuild, that's an understandable place to me.

It's not that the GA was different, but it was his play when the puck wasn't in the net that stood out for me as being completely different. He got lit up by power plays and deflections, something any goalie would be a victim to.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who wanted to go after Bryz. Ramo looked good if you look past the stats a little bit. I even like Bryz, and I still say there's absolutely no point.
One point I'd like to add to the bolded is how much faster he got back into position after a shot last night. In his first game there were a few instances where he made a save then wasn't back in a good position for the next shot. It seemed like he wasn't prepared for how much faster that second shot comes in the NHL compared to the KHL. Last night he made the initial saves then immediately scrambled back to position to prepare for the next chance. I suspect this was one of the things they've been working with him on.

Goaltending isn't a problem for the rebuilding Flames right now and Bryzgalov isn't a good solution. It's different teams and all but Bryzgalov had very similar stats as MacDonald in the past couple NHL seasons.

Did you even watch the game last night? It's ridiculous judging Ramo's stats after two games right after playing San Jose.

It's key to remember that Burke isn't a fan of Bryzgalov going back to their days together at Anaheim. That plus the fact that Bryzgalov is mediocre at best and behind this defense is going to look just as bad as MacDonald and Ramo. Would be a pointless signing. I'm hoping the Oilers sign him myself as he's no solution for anyone.

See, this is the perfect thread to get the Peca debate going.

Ramo hasn't looked good but he hasn't looked bad either. He hasn't let in a ton of stinkers and while some of the goals last night weren't his fault he really doesn't make any big saves or saves most goalies don't make.

So far he looks like a guy that was okay in the KHL and not good enough for the NHL. What is a concern is that he really over plays going side from side leaving himself out of position a lot of times.

I am not sure what the point of bringing in Bryz would be as the likely scenario is that he is a little better than what we have giving us an extra 2 wins or so and raising us from bottom 5 team to 5-10. Best case scenario is that he plays great and the team ends up as a 9-11 team. Neither situation helps us out much and leaves the team just as unstable at the goalie position as they are now.

At least if they play Berra and Ramo and they suck or are mediocre the Flames know what they have bringing in Bryz just takes games away from figuring out what those two guys are.

Number one: he's crazy.
Number two: the problem with this team is not goaltending. The defense is so porous that any goalie would suffer under these conditions.

its probably just me but when Mac is playing I get a nervous feeling when the puck gets in our end - he often makes the save but leaves me feeling like somehow it managed to stay out. Didnt have that when watching Ramo play last night. I think the bang - bang plays of the NHL still need some getting used to but I was happy with his play

and no to Bryz

I really hope nobody expected a career backup/waiver wire pickup to win games for the Flames. MacDonald is a career backup with a good attitude. He's basically playing where you expect him to.

That's brutal. Looking like the Ramo the Lightning saw way back when. Not sure why this guy can't translate his game to the NhL.
He's had no support. Kiprusoff would have let up 4-5 last night. The game against the Captials I didn't see, so I can't say what happened there.

I would wait on Ramo first...there's insufficient evidence.

Why? Would he be the difference between playoffs or no playoffs? I doubt it. There's no reason to sign him unless he really would be the difference. This year is about rebuilding the Flames and making a roster which will play with that team mentality that we've seen a lot of this year.

Berra is getting close to a job as an NHL backup. He'll probably be up next year, but I'd prefer he keep getting heavy minutes with the Heat right now.

the flames need to learn how to play defense and how to penalty kill... The goaltending has been satisfactory to date.
