So does the shot that was released in October include immunization against H1N1? Did some poking around on the AHS site but didn't see the info.

Yes - I got my flu shot in November and H1N1 was one of the included strains.

I see the pharmaceutical corporations are looking to have a prosperous 2014 bringing back the old H1N1 cash cow.

Wish we could make an appointment for our little guy. He turns 2 next week, yet you can't make appointments for kids under 9. Have to wait in line.
Wife and I had our shots done back in September.

I had H1N1 about a month ago. Really didn't seem any worse than any other strain I have had, but then again it had been years and years since I last had the flu. The worst it (fever phase) lasted about 3-4 days, but had respiratory issues for a couple weeks after.
I usually get the shot, but simply hadn't got around to it yet. The question now is whether I should still get the shot?? Common sense seems to suggest yes due to multiple strains? Incredibly unlikely though to get the flu twice I would think, even if there are multiple strains present.

This is the main problem with the media in conjunction with pharmaceutical corporations causing the hysteria. People my age that don't need it are lining up in droves making it difficult for the people that really need it like kids and seniors.

Right now H1N1 is over 90% of what's been detected in lab-confirmed cases according to the Public Health Agency. Was your H1N1 lab-confirmed? If it was you'd get some benefit but probably not a huge amount. If it wasn't lab confirmed then you might not even have had influenza or could have had another strain so it might be more worthwhile getting the shot.

It is "Big Pharm" that is causing hysteria? What are they doing, going around and infecting people to fill the ICU?
And I'm just guessing, but you are probably EXACTLY who they want to get immunized:

People between the ages of 20 and 65 are most susceptible to the H1N1 virus, she said. The elderly are at lower risk because they have “been around a long time” and may have been exposed to it. Children, Dr. MacDonald said, are also at lower risk.

I'm beginning to wonder if you aren't the CP version of Jenny McCarthy.

Not that I don't believe you, but that sounds a little weird. How the heck would he know?
I had it in the first go around a few years back, they did the nasal swab (not as fun as it sounds btw) and a week later they called back to say that I was a confirmed case.
I didn't have the severe respiratory issues others had but it was the worst flu symptoms of my life for 10 freakin days.
As an aside if people are having issues getting the shot, I am taking offers on vials of my blood.

I'm curious what other factors were at play? Were they not taking proper care of themselves during the initial phase etc?

I had a throat and nose swab as well. I didn't get a phone call until well after I had gotten better. I have an underlying health issue, which is why I was tested in the first place.

In general you're right, but H1N1 has a significantly higher danger rate in healthy people than typical flu. Since that's the flu that's going around, your age group should get vaccinated too.

He probably wouldn't know for sure but just assumed it was H1N1 since it was going around like wildfire. I never did a nasal swab or any testing, he just told me to keep an eye on it and if I was having any issues come back or go to emergency.

I floored that a healthy young adult can die from the flu, in this country.

Are you CP's version of Henny Penny (The Sky is Falling kids story if you aren't familiar)? I'm not saying H1N1 isn't dangerous but it's the flu. From that article you posted 3500 Canadians die each year from the flu. If you don't get the shots any other years why get one this year? Is there any proof that H1N1 is killing more people than the typical flu? Do I really have a higher risk of dying this year as opposed to last year?

It's the strain and it's caused by an immune system overreaction http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cytokine_storm A health immune system can actually works against the person in these cases.
We call it Swine Flu and it's a new mutation, but this is the same strain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Flu
