"I don't exactly know where Jiri was in our fitness testing but he was way up there. It starts from this. And then just give him the puck," head coach Bob Hartley said.

"I think he's our offensive motor. His vision, his experience obviously serves this young team very well. He's a fun guy to work with. He's obviously a big contributor on the ice and he takes care of the kids."

Earlier in the summer, Sean Monahan's place of residence was a hotel room but that isn't the case anymore. The 19-year-old was offered a room in the Hudler household at the beginning of the season and the veteran is loving having the rookie in his home.

"It's a lot of fun. He eats a lot, that's for sure," Hudler grinned.

"I've liked him since I met him in training camp. He's a good guy. He's an honest person and fun to be around too. He's funny. He makes me laugh. I'm glad that he's on the team ... we're playing pool and we're talking about hockey all the time."

Hudler is having so much fun with Monahan that the youngster might have his stay may have to be extended.

"He might stay there for a year. He doesn't know that yet."

Imagine being Monahan. Young kid, big hockey dreams, all of a sudden you are living in a mansion with Jiri Hudler and scoring GWG's for the Flames. Having someone like Hudler as a day to day mentor can only help Sean, I bet he is picking his brain non stop!

Hudler is a joy to watch out there right now, so much skill and leadership. Only player in the league who has scored a point in every single game so far. What a beauty of a free agent signing that was. Kudos Mr Feaster!

Hudler has been an absolute gem.

Hes an amazing player, team mate and pro. Hes very fun to watch and has been an integral piece to the Flames points this year.

Heres to hoping he doesnt cool off anytime soon!

I've always thought that Hudler was a good player, it's definitely a treat to watch him utilize his skill. I've always been a big proponent of having a skill guy on the team cause I always feel that it fosters more skill throughout the lineup.

I absolutely love that he's not just a small and soft skilled guy too. The way he took the Reggie hit and just kept on going was awesome to watch.

Hudler had a great game against the Kings last night. I honestly didn't think he could play physical like he did. The one thing that does get under my skin about him at times is his propensity to turn the puck over at the offensive blueline, but ultimately his play this year has been quite good and every player will turn the puck over once in a while.

offensive players turn the puck over at the blueline - that is the price you pay for trying to make plays

the alternative is the safe dump-in, which is always a good play, but doesn't generate much offense

I think he's a good mentor for Monahan and Sven and I hope Hartley keeps that line together for as long as possible as young players need a good, quality veteran player on their line IMO. Dave Gagner was a fantastic line mate for Iginla in his first season and I think Iginla may have ascended faster had Gagner remained with the Flames for longer than a season as throwing a bunch of young players together on a line isn't a recipe for success despite what Oilers fans may think.

Love Hudler's game right now, but he still needs to keep his head up a bit more. The guy is a bit reckless out there sometimes, and when Reggie took him down the tunnel, I was worried he'd get hurt. Glad to see he got up from that no worse for wear.

Hudler since the Iginla trade reminds me of when Val Bure emerged the season after Fleury was traded. I know that he didn't leave a good impression after that, but that year he led the team in scoring, he was really good. Nice to see Hudler stepping up to the challenge.

He's been fantastic so far this season. The catalyst for everything that's happening IMO. Just a smart, savvy cerebral player who knows what to do with the puck and doesn't panic. Awesome to watch.

Love the tenacity he is showing. Always knew he was talented, but he is really stepping it up on the forecheck and showing some grit in the corners (along with Stempniak). He deserves the accolades and I hope he keeps it up!

If Scoreface and/or Cammy are dealt at the deadline I wouldn't be surprised to see Hudler given an A. He has earned it IMO.

Great comparison......and I agree. Hudler is to Sven/Monahan as Gagner was to Iginla/Hoglund. (Of coarse not saying Sven=Hoglund or anything)
