Playoffs. Why?

For those who are picking picks because we get another "good prospect" to build around..you do realize IF the flames make the playoffs and continue this streak that would mean:

1) Monahan wins calder and Baertschi not far behind. Would you rather have two developed star prospects or three with potential to become stars? Isn't the point of having high end prospects is hoping they reach their projected upside?

2) A part of our 'new core' will be solidified and we would have the ability to move some extra playoff veterans for even more assets since Sean and Sven have proven they are more than capable.

3) Provide us more flexibility and opportunity to sign free agents and/or bring up our prospects who are more unproven for a shot.

4) We are winning. Why do you watch the games if you don't want the flames to win?

Playoffs.

We can draft #1 overall for the next couple years and still not emerge as a contender as demonstrated by our neighbour up north.

We already have a lot of good prospects in our system and I rather have a winning culture.

Yup. Red Mile no, Whyte Avenue yes.

Playoffs.
There's no question. Getting to the playoffs would mean improvement, and why do we want high draft picks? To improve enough to make the playoffs. That's the point of rebuilding.

^ Yup. Lotsa moving parts. A higher pick is still fraught with uncertainty. Not to mention that with the lottery, finishing last doesn't guarantee McDavid

I mostly think the decision isn't with the fanbase, it's just conjecture. If we slipped into the playoffs that would demonstrate something about the direction we are headed. If we get a high draft choice that would say almost the same thing. All of which we can guess what would be better for the team.

It's really about a thousand little things being done right to add up to something worth while. Face off wins, passes, goaltending, work ethic, how you deal with adversity after losing 5 in a row, ad infinitum. The D right now is cleaning up J MacDonalds rebounds, teams will see video and start popping these in left and right.

This is the measure of a team. In there lies the value of going to the games and cheering on a group that are greater than the parts. What we are talking about is the by-product of being unsuccessful at these thousand things, or being marginally successful or excelling and hitting hard where other teams do not. Compete.

So far, I don't know what I see, but a more concerted and disciplined effort in 2% of the season. So I guess I am saying from a fans point of view, the playoffs would be a treat at this point. Working our asses off doing the right thing so we get a mediocre pick would also suck, but I could live with it.

Playoffs. Making the playoffs.

Some random thoughts:

1) Monahan was the second best player in this draft
2) Sven is looking great for a 20 year old
3) Gadreau and Porier could quickly become top 6 players
4) horak, reinhart, colborne, knight, sieloff and cundari are all knocking on the door step
5) Backlund is developing into a solid 2nd line center
6) Agostini and jankowski could also turn into solid players
7) Brodie looks amazing

If we made the playoffs this year, while trading Cammy for a 1st rounder, with this kind of talent being developed...well the future looks super bright.

I can't believe what has become of sports...where people want their team to lose to get a pick

Would love to see playoff hockey back in the Dome. Even if they go out in the 1st round it will give the young guys a taste of it and hopefully make them hungrier and also they will get a sense of what it takes to be a winning team.

By the sounds of it Gadreau could be number 2 on your list, which would make current number 2 3 which isn't bad.

Picks. Trade pending ufas for a high returns and keep building the talent pool. If the flames can still make the playoffs while unloading UFAS great.

If playoffs is result of talent e.g. Monahan and Bartschi playing like superstars in making, then i want playoffs. If playoffs is result of effort and coaching then i don't want playoffs since this can hurt us long-term.

Playoffs, with long-term asset management in mind. That means if you can get 1st rd picks for Cammalleri and Stempniak, you do it, regardless of whether you're in the hunt or not.

As of right now I would say pick.

Sure it has been fun watching the team in the first 4 games but to me they have played alright and not really shown that they have "turned it around" or that they are close to being a contender so if they do somehow squeak into the play-offs I think it is likely more of a fluke rather than an actual solid progression leading towards becoming a contender.

Now it is early so if they do show a lot more improvement as the season goes on and for some reason there is evidence that they are close to contender status maybe I change my mind but based on the first 4 games it looks like squeaking into the play-offs would likely result in a big step back the following year and with Feaster as the GM I could see some really dumb moves based on misjudging the talent that would put the rebuild back a few years.
