Absolutely the worst GM outside of Edmonton.

Holmgren just bought himself some time by firing Laviolette. Holmgren will be gone during the offseason for sure, training camp speculation has him gone before the new year too.

Holmgren's days are numbered. They brought in Hextall for a reason; not unlike Feaster as AGM to Sutter

It does seem strange to hire someone that has been preaching the same message as the guy you just fired as his replacement. I would have thought an experienced fresh voice would have been whats needed here, not a rookie head coach.

Time to sell the flyers that I have in my hockey pool??

Craig Custance ‏@CraigCustance 2m Paul Holmgren: "Right from day one of training camp I was concerned about how the team looked." Calls firing a gut feeling.

So do they want Scoreface to be the new coach?

New record for earliest coach firing of the season?

My stepbrother has a very interesting bet with Emery this year whether or not they make playoffs. I will update everyone if they don't, but it's going to be hilarious if he loses.

Why do I have a gut feeling that Philadelphia needs an Iron Man . . .

I totally agree with you on that one. Unfortunately GM cannot fire themselves and Flyers ownerships are like the Oilers ownership, they like to keep incompetent management.

Holmgren must be feeling the heat a little as well. Firing the coach this soon is nothing more than a diversion and buys him some time.

If things don't improve soon, look for him to start throwing some players under the bus. If Feaster is keen, he will start circling that carcass while it's still warm.

The rumor is the teams are talking so maybe there is a trade the Flames can win happening soon?

Bad goaltending? No defense to speak of? Moves made by the GM didn't work out? Time to fire the coach!

Never a more obvious example of scapegoating than this, folks.

I don't even know that it's Holmgren's fault. I mean, he did everything he could to get Shea Weber to anchor the blue line. People point to Richards and Carter, but let's face it, the return on those trades has been among the brightest spots for the Flyers and give them a lot of upside for the future. And he didn't even seem to WANT to sign Bryzgalov.

Personally I blame Ed Snider for most of the problems. And the goalies obviously.

Didn't really expect this but not surprised. Flyers fans have speculated that a slow start would get Laviolette fired.

Mark my words, the Flyers are going to be down trending for a while. Doesn't matter that they have Giroux or Levacalier up the middle. When your GM is as boneheaded as Holmgrem, you have no where but down to go.

Absolutely, the wrong guy got fired.

Holmgren fired the right guy 'cause.....

well.... he can't fire himself can he and Bobby Clarke sure ain't gonna fire Holmgren.

Clarke and Holmgren are kinda like Lowe and MacTavish... buddies from way back.
