I kind of like it, but I agree it needs better implementation than how the Canucks used it after a goal. How they lit up last night, it reminded me of flashing Christmas lights, and that will look dated and cheezy pretty quick. To be honest, they look good in the dark during the pregame stuff, but when the arena lights are on during the game, it makes the leds look kind of cheap when they light them up. At least, that's how it comes across on TV. I'd have to see them in real life to have a better opinion on them.
I thought it was pretty neat, but when it comes to special effects after a goal, I don't think anything beats the burst of fire at the Dome (that despite being half an arena away, warms you for a split second).
Those are cool but I must say tampa bay's tesla coils are even better.

I find everything the Canucks Org tries to do is over the top. They try to be hip, cool, and artsy, but its all a bunch of gimmicks and come off as cheesy.
Their glowing ambiance background during post game pressers is cheesy.
The banners that come down in the playoffs with player projections on them while U2's 'Where the Streets Have No Name" and the flag carriers waiving the Canucks flags around was cheesy.
The new camera editing filters on CanucksTV that make everything look like a movie being shot in 24p is cheesy.
Add those LED lights to the pile. They are cheesy.
Not to be outdone, the folks up at Rexall are experimenting with a giant pair of truck nuts...they are dangled from the score clock and explode at the end of each Oilers loss.

I still love how those flame jets were sponsored by Enron at one point. It took them about 3 seconds to change the sponsorship to Enmax when that scandal broke. And the flames are so good, Atlanta completely stole it!
The tesla coil is freaking amazing though.
As to the LED lights, it looks nice, but I can see that getting cheesy real fast. Would be neat to see in person.
