Too long and too much. Pominville is usually a 20+ goal 60+ point guy and sometimes 30 goal 70+ point guy and not a strong playoff performer to boot. He's a good player but he isn't consistent and doesn't have the intangibles to push up his value.

i heared he signed for 5 yrs/$5.6 million per yr

looks like anyone who got themselves a Wild Pominville jersey should be safe for at least the next two yrs or so

Good $ value for him but I wouldn't want to have him locked up until he is 36.

Already showing some signs of his play regressing and wasn't a great playoff performer to begin with.

Guess to get the lower AAV you will need to give a little more term then you may want to.

Maybe... give him 3rd line competition and double shift him on the PP and you might have an asset you can trade at the deadline after you eat some dough.

I mean he's still a "name" to sell to the fans and a guy that would probably be fine with taking a really short-term relatively high money deal to play in his hometown for a year-ish.

Duhatschek was discussing the Kessel contract on the FAN960. He said internal whispers among NHL managers say the cap could go up to $72M next season, and maybe $80M in 2 or 3 years. That is why teams are locking in dollars and long terms now.

A crazy number today will look cheap with an $80M cap. The $8M player will become a $10-11M player.

In a league with David Clarkson making $5.25M a season and Ryan Clowe making $4.85M a season this is a steal.

Pominville is an underrated player.
