So Kobe confirms what anyone who wasn't a Laker fan/Kobe jock rider already knew: He's about Kobe and money, and nothing else. Certainly not winning because by agreeing to a 2 year $48 million deal, he's ensured they'll have no flexibility to sign anyone in the absolutely loaded West. Lakers can enjoy 3rd best team in California status for the foreseable future. A great day for Laker and Kobe haters.

$24M per year is more than Kobe's worth but at this point you are paying Kobe to sell tickets. Without Kobe and if they can't land Melo next year, the Lakers would have had no stars people are willing to pay to see on the team.

The Lakers are going no where in the next two year short of Lebron and Melo joining them. So I see this as a not too bad a business move even though it doens't make much basketball sense.

Kirk Hinrich has to be the most useless PG I've ever watched, and great "tank job" by the Bulls tonight at the end of the game.

Paul Pierce's out of the Nets line up for 2-4 weeks; the basketball God's wrath on the Nets for rigging the AK47 deal back in the summer.

So that's the Lakers and now the Nets. The Heat so far are the only super team that has been formed during a big off-season to have worked.

Blazers with huge back to back wins over the Lakers at Staples, which rarely happens, and against the Pacers at home.

15-3 looks good right now. Of course, there's plenty of season left. It'll be tough to keep up the hot shooting all season.

Rough..... The Bulls are 3-11 (12?) since Derrick Rose went down, Carlos Boozer is such a train wreck, just amnesty him now and get it over with. The tank is official on as they are that bad, having two top potential 15 picks might be a blessing in disguise. And if Thibs gets fired/walks next summer as he and him Gar Forman don't care for each other I'll lose my mind.

Nice foul as well committed by LeBron that didn't get called at the end of tonight's game on Paul George's s game-tying shot attempt, can't forget Paul George's epic flop earlier in the game either.

Andrea Bargnani made one of the dumbest plays I've ever seen tonight as well. The Knicks were up 94-92 with less than 20 seconds remaining in OT, Carmelo missed a shot as the shot clock was winding down, but the Knicks got the offensive rebound which would have effectively sealed the game. After Tyson Chandler got the rebound and passed it out to Andre Bargnani, he jacked up a 3-pointer immediately as if his team were down by two, the Knicks bench reaction was outstanding. He of course, missed, and that gave the ball back to the Bucks. John Henson made a shot to tie the game and send it to double OT, where the Knicks eventually won 107-101.

The Lakers were so wise to give Kobe the highest contract in the league going forward. I'm sure he'll be...oh wait he's already out 6 weeks again with another injury? Yeah that contract was horrible before but its going to be historically horrible sooner than later. Should have amnestied him in the offseason and gone all in for the tank.

Kobe played the end of the the Grizzles game with a fractured knee. He should learn how to slow down and not play hero ball at his age.

A little love for a couple of greats. First to Gregg Popovich, the best basketball coach of all-time. Another big FU to David Stern, and an even bigger FU as the Spurs beat the Warriors without Duncan, Ginobli or Parker. Pop could be given 12 guys off the street and I wouldn't even be remotely suprised if he made them a playoff team.

And to Kevin Durant, who is on an absolutely ridiculous run in his last 4 games, averaging 30 points (on 18 shots) 8 rebounds and 5 assists, with an absurd slash line of 60% FG/90% FT/65% 3PT. If he can keep it up like that he'll be the undisputed best player in the league by the All Star break.

The Dubs aren't who we thought they were. The West though competitive will be down to OKC, HOU and SA.

Wade and Gabrielle Union just got engaged. Just by looking at the photos, I would never have guessed in a million years that Gabrielle is 10 years older than Wade.

When the Heat look at the Lakers lineup on Christmas day, Spoletra might as well leave Wade, Lebron and Bosh on the plane.

I like Chris Paul as a player but he is a a big time baby. Is there any question that Clippers/Warriors is getting to the point where we can call it a "rivalry" (I hate that word), but I think it applies to these two teams with the hatred for each other?

lol Knicks. Quasi-tampering to try and get a player to demand a trade (the Knicks have anything worth trading for?) and hoping that players wanna come to New York so they can watch Carmelo jack up 30 shots a night. Must really suck being a Knick fan right now.

Quote:
According to league sources, the Knicks’ first prong is to try to attract the Celtics’ Rajon Rondo. This idea has been tossed around in various forms for a while now, it’s not shocking. But the way the Knicks are hoping to get Rondo is a little unusual.

It’s not in free agency in 2015 but later this season or next summer when he comes back from a torn ACL. The Knicks are hoping Rondo will be interested in making a maneuver similar to what Anthony did back in 2011 and eventually try to force a trade to the Knicks, sources said…

If that fails — and who knows how Rondo will mesh with this Celtics team, it could work well and he could want to stay — the Knicks fully believe they will get one or two of the following in free agency in 2015 when they expect to have large salary-cap space: Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Roy Hibbert, Marc Gasol, Tony Parker or Rondo when his contract is up. Under certain circumstances, (LeBron) James himself could be a free agent again that summer.

Russell Westbrook is now out until the All-Star break at least. Never seen a period with so many high end players injured.
