Wasn't that how it was before they changed it in the 80s? They added "God keep our land" and "From far and wide" if I remember correctly.

I'm in favour of changing the canadian anthem to vocal trance mix. Then there would be no gender whatsoever.

There are tons of benefits:
1. Euro dance clubs will be playing our anthem all the time.
2. We will be the only anthem to say in the billboards top 40 for 10 months in a row.
3. When we go to war, people will be so hyped up on E and dancing with glow sticks that the enemy will join in and dance with us.

The fact that sons is plural and not capitalized, means that there is almost no chance it has anything to do with Jesus.

O canada!
Our home and native land! [offensive to immigrants]
True patriot love in all thy sons command [offensive to women]
With glowing hearts we see thee rise [offensive to cardiac patients]
The true north strong and free! [offensive to southern ontario][offensive to the oilers][offensive to the incarcerated]

From far and wide [offensive to agoraphobes]
O canada, we stand on guard for thee [offensive to the handicapped]

God keep our land glorious and free! [offensive to atheists, agnostics]
O canada, we stand on guard for thee [offensive to pacifists]

O canada, we stand on guard for thee

Sorry, let me grammar nazi this up.

Sons = Plural
Son's = Possessive

Sorry, when I type on message boards I get lazy about contractions.

In this context, the original, "in all thou dost command" has a slightly different meaning: true patriot love should reside in all that are commanded by Canada - presumably all of the residents. Canada is personified here.

As such, a better modernization should be "in all that you command" (where you refers to Canada).

That's my take, anyway.
Nope they both mean the same thing.
In this case command is being used with the defintion being more like "Inspire".

Thus the line is
"True patriot love, in all thy sons/in all thou dost command"
which means
In all thy sons you inspire true patriot love
or
In all thou dost inspire trup patriot love

it's actually a little clearer with the "in all thou dost" bit, but the sentence is a little fronty/backy either way.

Hmmm....asked my wife if this bugs her that it says "all thy sons command"...her reply: nope, its catchy.

We're also not overly religious, asked her if it bugs her that it references God...reply: nope, each to their own.

So our vote is keep it the same. This is the version we'll sing when we're at the Flames games.

Feminism is all well and good, but I keep waiting for the moment when they want to change the word "woman" to just "wo" , so they can remove the man from it.

I'll be the first to admit that I dont know if I'm right, but I always thought:

"In all thy Son's Command"

Meant that we were singing to God and essentially pledging allegiance to Jesus, his son.

Everything is offensive to everyone now a days.

When did we become such a sensitive society?

These people can stick it, as far as I'm concerned.

Why do you have to be so offensive?
