Conroy mentioned back during development camp that Granlund had a line in his contract that stipulated he had to give the AHL a trial period (1 to 3 months) before he could return to Finland

Going to be real interesting to follow the progress of Granlund, Ramage and Wotherspoon. All had pretty good prospect camps and looked alright in the preseason. They could potentially see time this season. Jooris looked real good too. Surprised he wasn't given another preseason game.

I really hope Ferland makes it, and becomes an effective pest type player. We need a couple of those guys on the team.

I'm confused about the injury situation. Some injured guys sent down, others kept up because they're injured.

That's an odd clause? I've heard the stipulation of players being able to go back after pre-season, but not one that lets them ditch the team they are on in mid -season.

IMO Granlund will be like Sven was after he got rolling in the AHL.
By the end of the year he will have a permanent roster spot on the big club - Flames will trade some vets at the deadline.

I don't believe Sieloff is so injured that he can't continue to participate in practices. IIRC he just has to wear a full cage for the next 6-8 weeks.

I don't agree with posters that are saying that Granlund did not get a fair shake. It might not have been ideal, but the only spots opened were on the 4th line. They put him with 4th line players to see if he could be effective on the 4th line. It's not a knock on him because i think he is better suited for a 2nd line role, but there was no chance he was knocking one of those guys off.

Sieloff was cleared to play according to this article:
http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=683930
Quote:
INJURY NOTE: Earlier in training camp, Sieloff suffered a broken cheekbone but after being evaluated by the team medical staff, he has been cleared to play. He will need to wear full face protection for 6-8 weeks.

This. Cammalleri, Stempniak, Stajan will all be gone by the deadline.

Yup, because of his aggressive style they don't want Sieloff playing tonight.
Quote:
To save him from himself, the Calgary Flames do not plan to dress Patrick Sieloff.
Cleared for action despite a broken cheekbone, Sieloff will observe the team’s final date of the National Hockey League pre-season Wednesday.
Because the Flames know — if Sieloff, an agitating blue-liner, participates, he’ll get socked in the noggin.
“With his style of play,” coach Bob Hartley said with a wink, “he makes friends very quickly. He has that knack.

Not to bring it up yet again, but Sieloff isn't with the team to get extra therapy from the training staff. They can't do anything for a broken cheek bone other than put some ice on it now and then. He's with the team because he might actually earn a job to start the year, OR be the first recall in case of injury. My money is on the latter.
Kanzig is still there to get more coaching and tutelage than anything else. No way he makes this team out of camp over guys like Wotherspoon and Ramage.

What injured player was sent down? Klimchuk played within a day or 2 of being cut, meaning he had likely gained doctor's clearance prior to being demoted.
