It's very tempting, but I doubt I can do it. I can barely sit in my office chair for five minutes without standing up.

I would totally do it.

I could still work from in bed, plus I would have a good excuse why I didn't take out the garbage or empty the dishwasher.

If you can work from the bed then you could get quite a bit done in that time. I'd imagine writers and musicians would probably be pretty productive. Might lack inspiration though.

If I could line up some huge data entry job that payed a lot so that I could do that during the 70 days then I would consider it.

...bed tilted head-down at a six-degree angle.

That's in the opposite direction of comfortable.

No.

It's $18,000 for 15 weeks, so it's $1,200 per week. Let's say you do it all 52 weeks in a year; that's $62,400 for the year.

To be in the top 1% (or more correctly, the 99th percentile), you'd have to earn $191,100 annually in Canada. To be in America's 99th percentile, where NASA is based, you'd have to earn over $394,000 annually. The above figures are nowhere near that.

I got ~65K a year. I think you forgot to include the weekends.

18000 / The 70 days in the study= 257 a day * 253(working days in a year) = 65021.

Thats 18,000 is before tax too.

Edit: That's for Alberta.

But that could be on top of your regular salary if you took a month of vacation and then telecommuted.

From the article:

Quote:
The $18,000 compensation breaks down as follows: $1,200 per week for a total of 15 weeks. While the bed rest component of the study is 70 days, NASA requires subjects for pre-testing and post-testing, which brings the entire duration that the test subjects are required at the test facility in Texas to 15 weeks.
No big calculation required.
