Good point, though assuming you can complete the quest, which can be class specific.
Touche. Didn't think of that, since my frame of reference is MTG:Tactics where the daily missions are tedious but never really too hard (as the difficulty scales up with your progression).
I guess I don't see the Hearthstone economy as that bad since I've gone infinite in MTG:Tactics, where it was 2 gold / day income (on a free account, though you can up that to 14 gold / day by purchasing extra campaigns) and tournaments are 20. I'm still concerned that matchmaking will equalize people's progression rates too much though making progress strictly a matter of grinding and not related to skill.
Come on Blizzard, I'm an online CCG veteran, give me a beta key!
Is it even possible to go infinite? If Blizzard uses a matchmaker (and I've read that they will), it'll curve your win % down.
I don't know if Arena will use matchmaking or not.
Either way, going 6-3 and 7-3 endlessly should be close to always breaking even on arenas. The losses can be filled in by the gold earned from daily quests!
A lofty goal to be sure though

I think the only thing that's discouraging me from the game is the rate at which you can earn gold... 1 gold per win and a 150 gold arena fee is too much, or up to 1600 gold to craft a specific card.. I get that it shouldn't be too easy, but that's too much.
If someone plays at say an average of 5 games a day (which is probably high), then one could only get into an arena game once a month, and then you still have to win to benefit from it.
There are other ways to get gold, but achievements are a one time thing I assume.
I think the dailies + arena combo will be more than enough for casual play.
With daily quests, you should be able to earn enough to do one arena match every 3-4 days. Even if you end up with a quest for a class you don't play, it's usually only 2 wins, so not that bad. Plus your daily quests stack up to 3, so if you are having a rough go of one you can put it off for a little while
The arena costs 150g, but as far as I can tell, you are guaranteed one pack from it + your 4 other rewards based on your record. So, if you like arena and cracking packs, you should get your fill quite often. Even if you go 0-3 in the arena, you still get a pack + some random gold and/or dust. If you only like arena, you might struggle a bit to break even gold wise since packs don't really mean much to you. If you just like constructed, you'll get a pack every 2-3 days!
I'd say that's pretty decent for casual play, which I think is what F2P is intended for.
What the F2P model won't get you is really solid decks quickly, which might be necessary to do well in tournaments... assuming that there are tournaments!
The 5g/5 wins reward does kind of suck though. I'd rather see more quests that you can choose from after you do your daily. Possibly for smaller rewards or put a limit on the number of quests you can do.

After watching a few matches it's going to be difficult to unlearn all the MtG patterns, with no phases things are quite different.
Also with more health and fewer cards the strategy overall seems a little different, sacrificing early health seems preferable to get more cards to be able to do things, topdecking comes much quicker it seems.

Funny, I played some MTG on Friday and I had a brief struggle getting my head back into it!
Tempo, managing the board state and maximizing your resources (cards, health, mana) are some of the key concepts I think. Knowing when to make minion trades is vital to this game. I've lost matches because I failed to remove a simple 3/2 from the board on turn 3 and I fell behind to a removal + 2nd minion play.
I was able to play some more arena this weekend. Went 2-3 with a hunter deck that I tried to force into a beast theme but only ended up with a couple of beasts. I had a few dead cards in my deck because of that
Also went 9-2 with a rogue deck that was filled with awesome. I had 2 of the defias rogue cards that spawn an extra 2/1 when you combo with it. One game my opening play was (going 2nd)
Coin -> Defias (2/3 and 2/1) -> Shadowstep on Defias (0 cost, return to hand, costs 2 less) -> Defias (2/3 and 2/1)
Turn one I had a 2/3 and 2 2/1s vs a priest.
Barring a board wipe, I was in pretty good shape. That board plus the rogue's weapon skill can deal with almost anything he plays.
I don't think the coin will count as a card for much longer...

I think it will stay as it works well in theory...it just gives the rogue and some cards (questing adventurer for example) too much of an advantage in its current state.
It currently counts as a zero cost card for anything that references "playing a card" (eg: Combos, QA, a few others). In the hands of a rogue (who already has a bunch of 0 cost cards), that can be incredibly overpowered.
I can see them changing it to be a one time use power instead of a card. All the benefit of getting the extra mana when needed but without the potential game breaking advantage
I'd love to give this game a try, but since the only luck I have is bad luck, I'll probably be waiting until open beta/release...dammit.
There is some discussion about why the coin is there and how it interacts on the forums: http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/...pic/9948104957. Many cases for and against how it currently works, but it might come down to whether or not this is a case of being overpowered all the time, or if it is just a case of planned imbalance in the system.

I don't spend much money on mobile games. But the ones I do spend money on are generally card games. Which is weird, because I NEVER played Magic or Pokemon or Star Wars in school, when a bunch of my buddies did. Not even once!
If this game is good, I could definitely see this being a bit of money sink for me.... oh noes!

I can see spending a few dollars on every set that comes out, similar to what I do with MTG.
I think I'll stick to playing arenas on my daily quest gold though. 1-2 arenas a week would probably be enough for me.
Quite rare, $200 or something to buy one it seems. PC Gamer gave away 350 of them supposedly, but they've been hit by bots the past giveaways they've had.
EU just had another round of opt-ins yesterday I think, but nothing seems to be planned for more opt-ins in NA (opt-ins meaning Blizzard sending out keys to people who've got battle.net accounts that have indicated they wish to participate in the beta).
Don't know anywhere else that's giving away a significant # of keys, some social media guys are getting batches of 25 to giveaway on their videos or whatever, but a very large # of people want keys...
Play GTAV until open beta I guess.

Deck construction in Arena is challenging. It's hard to predict where a deck will go in the first few picks
Its funny how much easier it is when watching live streams than actually doing it.
Just a note I will try and find the link but apparantly the open beta is quite a ways away still. I have an odd feeling this game won't release until December.
