Man they did a pretty lousy job of evening out the skill on both teams. I guess they wanted to try and give the home fans a good first showing. Then we have to watch this group get destroyed at the hands of Hall and Yakupov..
Pardon me, sir, but it appears your glass is half-empty.

The first line I've actually liked is the Ferland - Monahan - Poirier playing in the Calgary game, but of course that game won't be available. These lines are just whack. Granlund should be alongside Horak on the 2nd line, or centering the 1st line besides Bart (whom he had notable chemistry with..) while swapping Hudler for Hanowski to provide them with some grit. And most of all, Wotherspoon should be on that 2nd defense pairing.

I sure hope there is a lot of line shuffling like they're saying.
Most of the lines make sense. Which ones do you have an issue with?

I don't like that Baertschi doesn't have a legitimate C. I also don't like that he is being thrown almost singlehandedly against the AAA team for the Oiler's. I also don't really like Granlund between two sluggers.

But that is about it. Not enough to worry about for game 1 of the preseason.

It's weird that one game starts at 7:00 and one starts at 8:00.

It's pre-season man. The coaching staff needs to get looks at a large number of players in many different game scenarios. I wouldn't read too much into the line combo's as they're going to be juggled constantly tonight. If we have a D pairing of Butler-Wideman in the regular season, you will have an argument.

This line up looks more exciting then the one we get in Calgary tonight. Much rather see the first two lines of this group then the ones in Calgary.

And higher potential of Oiler blood on the ice.

Just looks like the more entertaining option.

These lines, imbalance between squads and scratching Wotherspoon don't make sense. He shuffle lines during game but Hartley already annoying me.

There is a CFL Eskimo's game being played in Edmonton this afternoon, many fans will be attending both games. Delaying the hockey tilt until 8 will permit ticket holders to attend both games.

Dusty gets it.

Lines look like they were picked out of a hat, without any educated reasoning behind them.

And I'd sub Wotherspoon for Butler any day of the week.

I'm going to this game... was hoping to see Monahan but that was a pipe dream

Anyways, excited to see how Baertschi, Galiardi, Hanowski and also Grandlund perform.

GO FLAMES GO!

In other words you don't agree with them so they are stupid?

The Staples:

Glencross-Stajan-Stempniak
Cammalleri-Backlund-Jones
Baertschi-Galiardi-Hudler

These lines have been pretty good so far. They are well balanced and are likely the top 3 lines for the NHL team to start the season.

The Trials:

Ferland-Monahan-Poirier
Butler-Wideman
Giordano-Brodie

I love the first line. The D-pairings have been shaken up and probably will be again. No harm in trying to experiment with the chemistry of your pairings in the pre-season.

Everything else:

Who cares. There is only so much ice time. There are going to be scratches of players we like. There are going to be some skill players paired with grinders.

Besides, the lines will last all of 5-minutes. It is the preseason.

Some people think they are so much smarter then everyone else that they go off the deep end for no reason. Getting worked up over line combinations in the first split squad pre-season game. Sheesh.

They're not "stupid". It's likely that they're testing players like Baertschi and Granlund by the roles and players they've placed them in/with.

But I think there are far more sensible line combinations that just make more sense, and probably to any of the fans who've watched these players before too. Tim Jackman does not belong on the second line, for example. He's a grinder. Granlund on the other hand is not, so why is he there instead of Jackman? He's a natural centre who's shown chemistry with Sven, but instead Sven is being centered by a converted winger who hasn't played center since his junior days. Would it not only make sense to bump the converted winger down and pair the skilled guys that can click for the first line? Especially with a weaker lineup. And all this talk of their goal being to start with a winning mentality (Feaster getting upset over the last game in Penticton). Do you see what I'm getting at?

Probably not, but I thought I'd nicely point it out since you went out of your way to make me sound like some smug ###hole. (thanks, btw)

If you thought about it carefully. That "second line" is potentially the fourth line of the Flames. So basically they've set up four lines that they think they will see and then the rest of the players fill up the rest of the roster. Probably will see some movement up and down to see how players fit in different roles, but really it's just pre-season. Chill out.

Yeah, but against the stronger Edmonton lineup, you think that you'd want to group your top skilled guys in the top 6, instead of playing a potential fourth line against the Yakupov line. That's not the kind of competition that line would see in a season, anwyays, so it defeats the purpose. Also you think it would kind of foil whatever read they're trying to get on these players when they're setting them up for an embarrassment with these matchups?

Maybe this group surprises and can hold their own, who knows, but as things are set up, it's not looking too promising. At least they've got the better tenders for this game. Hope to see a good amount of Ramo and what he can do.

Edit: Scratch that. This lineup is genius. They're testing Ramo/Berra to see if they can handle a proper shelling, and bail out the team. Haha.

This is the feed I will be watching. You haven't experienced hockey, until you've watched a raw Oilers feed.

Here's to hoping for an Old Dutch snack FRENZY!

Is the stream for this game up? I'm getting "THIS VIDEO IS NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA. PLEASE CHECK LOCAL LISTINGS FOR TIME AND CHANNEL LOCATIONS" from Vancouver, not sure if it's on my end or the stream isn't up.
