I am all for people hating on bottled water, but the fact is that water is essentially free for everyone and every corporation.
Oil companies dump millions of gallons of water down holes. Industrial companies use huge quantities for cooling, agriculture draws unimaginable amounts of water out of rivers. I think the Colorado river is now so tapped that it no longer flows to the ocean.
Water that is bottled isn't leaving the system either. It will eventually make its way back through the waste water treatment plants and out into some body of water.

Hate on the bottle, but not the content.
The issue with bottled water however is that it leaves the immediate area. They ship that stuff all over, so it does not get recycled back into the local supply.
In this video there is a segment showing some complaints that local Indian Farmers had after Coca-Cola moved in, taking the local water supply and exporting it to other regions (and depleting the water table). The Coca-cola segment is set up at about 7:20 and starts around 8:20.
I was thinking about all of the other industries that use water as the largest part of an end consumer product...while drinking a beer from the Netherlands.
I wonder how the breweries and soft drink manufacturers are treated as they too use quantities of water and ship to other areas.

I have my stainless steel 750 ml water bottle that I take with me everywhere. I haven't purchased a bottle of water in years. I do however have a brita filter that is barely good enough to remove the chlorine...
I basically buy bottled water at fast food joints because it has 0 calories as compared to the coke. It's my attrition for ordering fast food. Look at the Tim Hortons litter around the city. I clean other peoples messes up continually. Ikea, tim hortons and careless inconsiderate people are ruining the planet not bottled water.
Cans, Plastics, are recycled. What do you think your beer is transported in?
When I can I take my water in my re-usable plastic bottle.
