I don't think it is a hygene issue based on the method of transmission of the virus.
I am much more concerned with the lack of employee handwashing that occurs at restaurants and food left in the temperature danger zone for too long especially at a buffet.

Weeping cold sores? Anyone who has had a cold sore knows that crap isn't flowing out of it to the point where you can't control what it gushes onto. Seriously? How is this even a problem?

I think it has something to do with him always being worried about things that other people find trivial or ridiculous.

I think a lot of people would be at least a little concerned about transmission of the cold sore by somebody handling their food, utensils and glassware.

You should be more concerned by the amount of fecal matter you're ingesting, because someone on staff isn't washing their hands after using the bathroom. The cold sore is really a non-starter, lol.

Jammies pretty much nails it, but also in this case he's looking for information. He managed to find a whole page dedicated the cold sores, but cannot find Alberta Food Safety guidelines?
Oh look, here it is.

I'd be more concerned about the cook in the back that didn't wash his hands after taking a dump or fapped one off before leaving for work because he knew the waitress wasn't going to be able to felate him

Servers with Leprosy
Similar experience only my waitress had leprosy. I particularly avoided the tiramisu for obvious reasons.

It's extremely extreme. Given the method of transmission and the fact that it's virtually impossible for HSV-1 to survive outside of the human body, his makes about as much sense as saying somebody with Crohn's shouldn't be serving food.
I guess there's the possibility that the sever scratched her cold sore with your spoon seconds before you ate your soup. But if that's the case I probably wouldn't go back there, unless the soup was really, really good.
However if a server with a cold sore is an issue for you, I'm going to strongly suggest you stop eating anywhere but your own home.

So if she touched her cold sore, then touched the rim of my glass, then I drank from my glass, there is a 0% chance I'd get a cold sore?

Seems like anywhere you dine out, something is "off putting"
I guess you at least did some research and posted a link. Kudos to you though, I can't figure out if this is intentional or not, but it's funny.

It comes down to hygiene in restaurants and this is really no different then if a server had a cold and was serving my food.
If the person is sick they should not be working at that time, especially in a service industry where you come in close contact with your customers.
This case is a little extreme since cold sores usually need to be transmitted from skin to skin contact but it can be concerning to have a person with an active weeping cold sore serving you your drinks and food.
|
You can't get it twice. Hate to burst the fear bubble, but what are you going to contract from her? You almost assuredly have the virus already. You're not going to get it again

Yah, I call those people "hypochondriacs".

Growing up, both my parents and brothers had cold sores. Sometimes I could see them, sometimes not. Never got any myself (I'm sure there is some genetics of it that I could have).
Think of the contact you have within a home with your own family. I was still safe

Let us leave the poor cold sore alone for a second.
Do you believe the glass you get is clean and free of germs?

I've talked about two things related to restaurants in four years. I eat out about five times per week. 99.9% of the time I don't have an issue.

No, I don't think glasses at a restaurant are sterile or anything, but they're clean enough that I'm not bothered in the slightest drinking out of one, with the exception of the scenario I've outlined in this thread.

Who knows.
But if she wiped her ass and didn't wash her hands thoroughly, you could be at risk from e-coli.
Consult a physician immediately.

To me this is odd. Your waitresses hands covered in fecal matter and bacteria are of far more risk to you than her hands coverd in the herpes virus. The only real difference is that you see on and dont see the other.
