$600,000 seems really expensive for Omark, but every building needs a janitor to sweep the floor.

Why not take another year to see if this guy has what it takes. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

A star RFA unwilling to sign with team, but even then they would just trade his rights, not sign and then trade. 2.) In the NBA where the re-signing team can offer more money and term than any other team (see Lebron trade).

In the NHL the norm seems to be, advanced talks with the player and the acquiring team. Followed by Trade and Sign. Really the same thing as the NBA Sign and Trade just happens the other way. See Wideman last summer, Contract was inked before the Flames publicly announced the trade.

Smaller version of horak? (not quite top six, not fit for bottom 6)

Nope. They aren't particularly similar players at all.

I think to raise the AHL salary. You actually see quite a few sure fire AHLers sign for this type of cap hit for that very season. I think there is cap that says AHL salary can't be more than a certain percentage of their NHL salary on a 2way deal.

Kris Russell, July 5th, 2013.
St. Louis signed Russell and then immediately dealt him to the the Flames.

I remember watching highlights of Omark years ago and being jealous, with a handful of my friends championing him as their savior at the time (good thing that trend ended .. )
Hope he turns it around for his own sake, he was definitely fun to watch at one point

Isn't league minimum $600,000 or pretty close? Seems like a fair deal money wise but I wouldn't have signed him. He's useless but a good signing for the rest of the NHL.

My guess is he's hoping to be picked up on waivers prior to being sent down. He's cheap enough that some team might take a chance on him. I highly doubt the Oilers will keep him with the big club.

Nothing alike. Omark is basically top 6 or bust where as Horak could be used usefully as an bottom 6 player.

I think Nigel Dawes would be a more apt description from what I remember of him. Ridiculous on shootouts though.

I don't know enough about him but it seemed he hasn't done anything really in an oilers uniform. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a feeling some of these Oiler cast offs will be better off somewhere else.
A team can only have so many forwards that are smallish and skilled. In 11-12 they had Eberle, Gagner, Hemsky, RNH, Paajarvi, Omark on the NHL roster at some point that season. You can't have that many smallish, young, forwards on a roster and expect them all to develop and succeed.
Would not be surprised to see guys like Omark, Paajarvi, Rajala, do better some where else.

Make it or break it year for him this season. Most likely not talented enough to be a top 6 player in the NHL.
