He's been at the BioSteel camp all week so he should be in great shape to start the season!

Always been a huge Cammy fan. I loved when we brought him back and am happy he is still here. I don't see a place for him on this team moving past the trade deadline and looking to the future with Johnny and Klimchuck in the pipeline.

I think he's a good guy but in an ideal world would prefer to move on. Contract too high so Feaster didn't find any takers at the draft (or last trade deadline, though he may have had interest then), so here we are. I suspect gone by the Olympic break or trade deadline for a team looking to add some pop.

Don't expect him to say much else.. I wouldn't be upset with a 4 million a year Cammalleri tutoring the young guys.
But he will want more, so he can go elsewhere. Really like his attitude though and always have.

Just needs to stay healthy. Contract year + will get loads of icetime.
Should make for excellent trade bait come the deadline.

I can't imagine he was going to publicly say he doesn't support a rebuild, he thinks the team is going to suck, and he can't wait to move on. But it is still nice to see him deal well with a tough situation. Good for him.

As others have said this is nothing more than PR service knowing he is almost out of Calgary.
I saw Cammi on TV a month or so ago and when asked about being part of a rebuild he jumped around the question. The closest thing he said to answering the question was hoping that it would be like Ottawa's re-tool.

They also need to free up Johnny's number for when he joins the team late in the season.

Unfortunate really, if there would be anyone on the Flames roster that would be an ideal mentor/role model for Gaudreau it'd be Cammy (in terms of teaching how to get by as a small guy in the NHL, how to adapt a healthy athlete diet, and how to workout like a demon).
... Damnit, Note to Self: Stop talking yourself into wanting to keep Cammy around.

The one downside here is risk of injury. Cammy will be the go to guy and I think he will get special attention from the competition. Just don't want to see what happened to Weiss happen to him as that will kill all value and we will be left with jack squat. True, if his value is zero right now like Regier is claiming with players with expiring contracts, then nothing Feaster can do about it. But if an offer comes up that is fair, hope he will be all over it.

Hmmm. As much as Canny appears to be trade bait. It is possible he 're-signs here too. He is a competitor and definitely is a very dedicated player. I was also happy they brought him back. So I could see him being here a while longer. but if they do trade him I won't get butthurt over it either.

Feaster strikes me as a guy who will always listen.

Cammy has one year left on his current contract. He knows that if he has a good season he's likely going to be traded to a contender before the end of the season and cash in in the summer.
Maybe Cammy has different priorities now that he's married, I don't think Cammy will be happy playing for a rebuilding team. Cammy is a pretty driven guy who enjoys the limelight. As the interview suggests, Cammy doesn't think of himself as the veteran who is there to mentor. Cammy's role is to be the best or one of the best players on the team. An offensive leader. Cammy cares about money, he cares about his role on the team (opportunity score goals), and he cares about winning. Cammy witnessed first hand what Iginla went through. If winning a Cup is important, Cammy should try to find himself a contender while he is still relatively in his prime. Otherwise he'll be an aging undersized forward who can still score 20+ goals but contenders are looking for younger options.

The only part I'd criticize is this. Contenders are all about the now, so they care less about age. They are also usually are very interested in players with playoff experience and players who bring "intangibles" and "veteran presence".

I'm pretty on the fence about Cammy.
On the one hand, I like the idea of him playing top line minutes and sheltering young guys like Sven. Cammy is a real competitor and hates losing, which would be awesome to have as a role model for a lot of the youth in our system.
On the other hand, he's a proven playoff commodity and still has a few years of excellent hockey left in him and would be a great asset come the trade deadline this year. If he puts up really good numbers playing on our top line, he should be able to garner a 1st round pick or a quality prospect from a team looking to load up for the playoffs.
Ideally the team either trades him at the deadline for something decent, or re-signs him as a veteran leader for the team going forward. Worst case scenario is that he plays out this year and walks... which I don't see happening (they traded Iginla instead of losing him for nothing)
