I like the idea of shaming with these punks. If they're caught and convicted they have to stand downtown for a week with a sign around their neck that says "I am a dirty thief. I like to steal things that are not mine and I got caught. I'm really not sorry about doing it, so its ok for you to pummel me with rotten fruit and eggs."

Police report filed if only for statistics.

Does Theft count as a claim on your insurance ?

I wouldn't mind replacing the sunglasses through insurance as long as it doesn't jack my rates...

And if I caught a kid pooping in my car, I'd make him eat it one small spoonful at a time. no ketchup or salt and pepper.

You'll likely have to go through your home owners insurance.

Were they white Oakleys? If so, you deserved it, and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

I dont know, it really sucks but I certainly wouldnt know what the hell some ashes were doing in a velvet bag. They may have desecrated her cremated remains, but I dont know how much intent or malice you can attribute to the action.

Not to mention, what an odd thing to keep in your car....

Agreed, for sure that part doesn't make any sense to me.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't leave ashes of my loved one sitting in a car overnight, no matter where I am.

AND I LIVE IN BONAVISTA! WE HAVE 2 LAKES!

Knowing what I now know about Lake Bonavista you should just be grateful they didnt pour the ashes in the lake!

2 rules, you can follow one or you can follow both of them and you should have good luck with this kind of thing:

1. Lock your car door
2. Don't leave valuables in your car, or if they are, make sure they are totally out of sight.

Right now, the most expensive thing in my car is my $7 car changer and $1.25 USB cable, unless you count 2 dozen fast food napkins in the center console.

Poor lady. We saw her at the Eau Claire Street Festival this past weekend, as she was a volunteer for one of the shows we were watching.

Yeah, I still don't know. I mean she kept ashes in her car. And an old jacket? That is just sort of weird and creepy.

If I was a car prowler, and I saw a little velvet bag, I'd be thinking... Woohoo! Drug stash! Lets dump this out and see what we've got! Common 8 ball....

Maybe they snorted some, and the high wasn't what they were expecting, which is why it ended up on the ground.

Keeping a loved one's ashes in a vehicle is more common than you would think, although I've never heard of them being in a velvet bag. My uncle has some of his father's ashes in a sealed mini-urn in his work truck.

Personally, that's not a way I would choose to remember and mourn a parent, but it certainly brings him comfort and peace.

Reminds me of this story about women getting their purses stolen while filling their gas tank: http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/us/...-stations.kprc

Lock you doors. It's pretty simple.
Not only lock your doors but if there is something of value that's visible, put it under the seat. No use locking your door and getting your window broken for some coins in a holder.

It must be, because I wouldnt think anyone would do that.

I guess I learned something new today. The thought of someone's ashes in a car would never occur to me at all. I think I'd be less surprised finding a kilo of coke in a car vs. finding someone's ashes in a velvet bag.
