Love these videos. It really shows you that there is zero consensus and that teams will place certain types of players much higher than other organizations will. In this case Philly really emphasized big defensemen.

While I don't disagree with your position that there is no real board, after Holmgren's telling them they were out to lunch, I doubt very much that what was shown was the Flyers final draft list.

One thing I think this shows is a team that is setting their draft list based on needs. They were talking about all these big defensemen, which is e Flyers biggest need. They were marginalizing a center, which they obviously don't need. Their needs were driving their decision as to how to order their list. So to them, BPA is BPA that addresses their organizational need.

But in all seriousness, I love seeing these behind the scenes videos. Very informative for us lowly fans.
I love these too. But I can see why GMs' would not want these out there. If they pick the best player, they were supposed to be able to do that. If they pick a dud, they are humiliated.

My favourite one was when Doug Maclean let cameras in on draft day. When the Canadians picked Carey Price one spot ahead of them they were hugging and high fiving like they had just been guaranteed the next Stanley Cup. Then he walked up to the podium and proudly selected Gilbert Brule.

I dunno if it's true but I heard that a Flames scout resigned right at the draft table when Al Coates picked Tkackuk instead of Samsonov.

Seemed like a bit of a joke remark to me (the Holmgren comment). Bunch of them laughed right after he said it

So with this behind the scenes stuff and some logic we've got the following teams having this defender as the best defender after Jones:

PHI - Morin
BUF - Ristolainen
EDM - Nurse

The Flyers were debating whether to have Mueller as the top rated defender. Mueller ends up going 18th to the Sharks who traded up a few spots to get him, clearly they must have had him much higher as well. Sounds like a lot of difference of opinion on Zadorov vs Nurse vs Ristolainen vs Morin vs Mueller vs Morrisey vs Pulock.

It was a joke remark because their revised list was a joke or the released video was for the Flyers fans to show they got their man while he should have been gone as the 6th pick. It was publicity release while trying to look real.

How do you figure? The Flyers obviously liked the defensemen in this draft. If the listed "guess" is correct, the only forward drafted after Horvat that the Flyers had ahead was Gauthier and how many of us would take Gauthier over Horvat?

Love this kind of stuff.

-Blues really wanted Jakub Voracek (offered Caps 9th and 26th for the 5th, Caps said no and took Karl Alzner). They offered Oilers 9th and 24th and Lowe said no and took Sam gagner.

-Very high on Ian Cole, who is still developing but is coming around.

-Every team has their rankings, we all know that. Blues thought they could get 4 guys out of their top 18 rankings with their first 4 picks (9th, 24th, 26th, 39th). Just shows you don't have to listen to TV experts, when teams go off-board they put a ton of time into these guys.

-SJ offered a 2nd and 13th to move up to 9th. Jarmo wanted to take the 2nd next year instead but JD kinda talked him to taking it this year. They ended up getting 13th, 44th, 3rd next year for the 9th. Sharks really wanted Couture and I guess it shows why. Great pick for the Sharks.

-After Voracek was gone, they were happy to take Eller by moving down to 13th.

-They liked Shattenkirk pick when he was picked by Avs.

-Sutter offered the trade (18th for 24 and 70). They asked Jarmo if he wanted to move up and take Cole, he did and they made the deal. The 70 ended up being John Negrin who was later traded for Akim Aliu who was then released. This is also where Esposito was really falling and I still remember CP wanting to take him really bad. He finally went to Pens (19th) right after we moved down. I remember being annoyed by it but they got it right by not selecting Esposito.

Clearly had their organizational need coming into play there.

Love McDonaugh's comment in that video.

2nd episode is up:

Pretty boring episode unless you like following Morin around after he got picked.

Only interesting tidbit is Montreal tried to trade up to Philly's spot, but the voiceover guy says Holmgren lost interest when it became apparent the Habs wanted Morin.
