Go to London drugs and get a roam mobility sim card. Make sure your phone is unlocked.

Sim card is $20. You can keep it and as long as you add a couple dollars a year the sim card will keep working.

Go to roammobility.com and pick your plan. For example 12 bucks for 3 days, with 100mb per day data, unlimited talk and text within the u.s. and back to Canada.

Make sure they have coverage where you will be. I think they use t-mobile the website has the maps.

I used it in Vegas in May, worked great. I was going to buy a sim in the states but thought it was easier to get it all set up here before I left.

This is probably a stupid question, but just for clarity: do you have to unlock the phone each time? and pay Rogers $50 each time you want to use the roaming card?

No. Once the device is unlocked it's unlocked for good.

Your Rogers account doesn't go away. You swap the SIM card in the US, and swap it back when you're back in Canada. Everything on Rogers rolls on like normal when you swap back.

I had Google Talk that kept me connected with the couple people I cared about, mostly my boss. Wife used iMessage. Between us, that was enough. 95%+ of our texting was between the 3 phones we brought with is (and switched to TMobile SIM).

iMessage will use txt as a primary source unless you change a certain setting.

When I go to the States, from Ontario, as soon as I cross the border Rogers sends me a text to my iphone saying if I use data I am automatically on a $7.50 data pack, which is auto-renewed when you go over.
