Yeah Feaster we need an elite goalie, a few top six forwards, a couple top pairing dmen, well practically everything. Please go mortgage whatever future we have in order to acquire those assets! Teams just love handing those players out for practically nothing obviously!

Oh and I can't believe anyone would rank Calgary first on LW (former Hart Trophy winner ranked fifth ) or anything for that matter. I realize we want to find someway to get through these tough times, but right now we're bottom ten (possibly bottom five) at every position in the league. Some might call that an overreaction, but I'd call it intellectual honesty.

Calgary would probably be 7th in defence, especially if Shane O'Brien is playing top 4.

Probably 7th everywhere except their Left Sturmers really. I would put them around 3-4th there.

1.LA Kings
2.San Jose
2.Vancouver
4.Anaheim
5.Edmonton
6.Phoenix
7.Calgary

We aren't tied with Edmonton on LW. They're better.

I love how "Sturmer" is becoming an expression!

I think Brodie would easily be 4th, should be 3rd ahead of pylon Bieksa, but there is no way the Flames defense is ahead of the Canucks and probably tied for worst with the Oilers in the division.

And Calgary isn't close to first in LW either even with guys out of position in the list in the OP.

Using the lists in the OP Calgary is 6/7 in every category outside of LW and if you add in coaching probably just above Eakins there because he is an unknown at this point. It is a bad year for realignment for the Flames chances to win but should help in securing a high draft pick for next season.

Vancouver or Edmonton will get in at Phoenix's expense.

I wouldn't go there quite yet. Edmonton could squeak in for sure (although they seem to find new ways to surprise us all and suck) Also, Vancouver, if they start well, they'll be in good shape. It's really all on Luongo. He's very unspectacular, but plays a good system and is big enough. His mental game is seriously awful though. If they're comfortable 15-20 games in, he can probably maintain it. If they fall close to the cut-off, or if they're fighting for a spot, he will probably fall apart.

Is it three from each division that get in, no matter what? And then the next two teams in either division in terms of points?

I hate to break it to you guys, but Wideman is an All-star. And his work in the D zone was way beyond what I expected when we signed him. He is Far Better Schultz and brings a different aspect to the game then any of the Vancouver players. Brodie and Giorando are capable top 4 dmen hands down if you've watched either of them play. I did rank the Flames D in the bottom half of the div, but its not terrible.

Good Faceoff and back checking Centermen can make a D look better then they are. Van has had that for years.

The biggest issue with the Flames D the past 2 seasons has been overall toughness and support from the Center position. I think the first issue has been addressed to a extent, and hopefully Breen can steel Butlers spot and all but eliminate that issue. The second problem is the reason I ranked the D 5th, but the team 7th. Man for Man Van & Calgary are dressing about the 5th best D in the division. And Edmonton is the worst D in the Division.

And I did put Anaheim so low on LW to spite Perry. The Canadian teams are all have legit 1st line LWs and are vary strong on lines 2,3,4. Ana has no depth.

I hate to break it to you, but Wideman is no all-star, at least is no longer an all star.. You need to wach more hockey other than the flames. The flames and Edmonton have the 2 worst d lineups in the league. It's a toss up which is worse. Trust me there are no winners in that conversation.

You showed him. We just got off the phone and he's really upset.

Seriously, though, I think the thread has provoked some good discussion, so thanks for that.

LW
1. Tie Calgary (Cammaleri, Beartschi, Glencross, Galiardi)
& Edmonton (Hall, Perron, Smyth, Brown)
3. Vancouver (Burrows, Higgins, Booth, Sesito)
4. LA (Richard, King, Carcillo, Clifford)
5. Anaheim (Perry, Beleskey, Etem, Staubitz)
6. San Jose (Desjardins, Marleau, Torres, Hertl)
7. Phoenix (Korpikoski, Boedker, Klinkhammer, Bissonnette)

C
1. San Joe (Thornton, Couture, Pavelski, Burish)
2. LA (Kopitar, Carter, Stoll, Toffoli)
3. Vancouver (H Sedin, Kesler, Santorelli, Schroeder)
4. Edmonton (Nugent-Hopkins, Gagner, Gordon, Lander)
5. Phoenix (Vermette, Ribeiro, Hanzal, Chipchura)
6. Anaheim (Getzlaf, Cogliano, Bonino, Palmieri) Gets real thin after Getzlaf
7. Calgary (Backlund, Stajan, Monahan, Knight)

RW
1. LA (Williams, Brown, Lewis, Frattin)
2. Vancouver (D. Sedin, Hansen, Richardson, Kassian)
3. Edmonton (Eberle, Hemsky, Yakupov, Jones)
4. Calgary (D Jones, Stempniak, Hudler, Horak)
5. Phoenix (Vrbata, Doan, Moss, Yip)
6. San Jose (Burns, Kennedy, Havlat, Wingels)
7. Anaheim (Winnik, Koivu, Silfverberg, Smith-Pelly)

D
1. LA (Doughty, Mitchell, Voynov, Regher, Martinez, Greene)
2. Phoenix (OEL, Yandle, Michalek, Morris, Schlemko, Klesla)
3. San Jose (Boyle, Vlasic, Stuart, Demers, Hannan, Braun)
4. Anaheim (Beauchemin, Fowler, Sbisa, Souray, Allan, Vatanen)
5. Calgary (Wideman, Giordano, Brodie, O’Brien, Butler, Russell)
6. Vancouver (Bieksa, Edler, Hamhuis, Garrison, Tanev, Weber)
7. Edmonton (Schultz, Schultz, Smit, Ference, Petry, Potter)
G
1. LA (Quick, Scrivens)
2. Phoenix (Smith, Greiss)
3. San Jose (Niemi, Stalock)
4. Anaheim (Hiller, Fasth)
5. Vancouver (Luongo, Lack)
6. Edmonton (Dubnyk, Labarbera)
7. Calgary (Ramo, Berra)

Team
1. LA – Balanced Offense with a Great D and Goaltending

2. San Jose – Great Centers, but to many other guys playing out of position.

3. Vancouver – Allot of established Players but starting to fade

4. Phoenix – Good Defence and Goaltending will make up for a slower unskilled forward group.

5. Anaheim – Some young players stepping up could add the depth needed to be competative

6. Edmonton – To weak at D & G, and their Centers are not strong enough to put up the 5 GFA they would need to compete.

7. Calgary – An Elite Center, An Elite Goalie, and a Top4 Dman could put the Flames right in the SJ/Van range. Get to work Feaster.
Good write up and very interesting prospective. Personaly the fact that we aren't at the bottom of ever statistical category is a win in my book. Especially considering the season which potenially awaits the Flames.

Except he didn't block the shot and the puck went in the net.
