All they are trying to do is hit the minimum average paid attendance so they qualify for the NHL revenue sharing subsidies. I guess it's better than them buying up the tickets themselves.

There was story posted here a few months ago about a Vancouver fan who became a Panthers season ticket holder. If I remember correctly, he had trouble giving his tickets away. He also made it down to a game and was given the owner`s seats or something.

This was my first thought as well when reading the OP.

Good marketing move to get this done while keeping the general public from knowing the true motivation for it.

There are people in Quebec City and Hamilton and S. Ontario, that would pay a fortune to see NHL games. They look at these promotions and feel frustrated.

Heck, people in existing NHL cities paying premium prices, feel frustrated too.

If you go to their site it says less than 50 less at that price, so they are selling.

Also found these ticket charts:

I'm frustrated that I have to travel to Europe to see good soccer live. Thems the breaks, a team isn't setting up shop here just because I'm frustrated, and moaning about the ticket prices at Fulham seems pretty silly.

They actually pay a premium to sit first row behind the glass?

That's kind of the opposite scenario. The reason you have to go that far is because that's where the money is for teams. And the argument against the Panthers is that Flordia is not where the hockey money is. It would actually be more akin to having an EPL team in Calgary when Derby fans are screaming for one (I have no idea if this is true, I just pulled some random English place from nowhere) would probably be a better fit. Now there are obviously flaws in that logic, but you see what I'm saying.

I do see what you're saying, but at the end of the day teams exist where people want to own them and where leagues perceive a benefit from having them, which isn't necessarily where all the fans are.

It just seems silly for people in places like Quebec or wherever to be upset about a tactic used in another market. The reason there's no team in Quebec City isn't 'because there's a team in Miami', it's because nobody wanted to own a team in Quebec City anymore.

There were people having trouble giving away Flames tickets in Calgary towards the end of the season so that really isn't a surprise.

I'm moving to a community next to Sunrise, Florida (where the Panthers play) in December/January. Even if I miss half the season it will still be worth it.

The Flames away game in Florida isn't until April 4th. I'm sure by then they will be giving tickets away (2 bad teams at the end of the season) to any Flames fans that want to meet up with a fellow CPer down there.

Who knows, maybe I'll become a die hard Panthers fan....

...nah.

Really makes you wonder why they wouldn't want to move the team to a Canadian market where they could actually make some money... First world problems..

I actually went to the site and put my contact information. I'm going to see how this pans out. If I did get them, it would only be for the jersey so I wonder if they'll do any kind of deal for that.... but then I'd be stuck with a panthers jersey

It isn't the market, it's the building.

Here's an example I read about recently: The Islanders will get more money from their share of luxury suites at the Barclays Center than their entire gate revenue in Nassau. In fact, it isn't even close. If they sold out every seat for every game in Nassau, it would still be less money than the suites in Brooklyn.

The Panthers could move up to Quebec, sell out the Colisée Pepsi every game, and lose money faster than they did in Florida.

When the Quebecor Arena opens in 2015, Quebec City will back on the map as a possible NHL market. Until then, every NHL-calibre arena in Canada (plus the MTS Centre, which isn't quite) already has an NHL team.

Just seems so crazy to compare to how it is over here to get season tickets!
