No, 3 years ago he was awesome. 2 years ago he was awful and we should have jumped at the chance to get anything back for him, and instead we re-signed him.

So now that we are past the deadline, what does this mean for Brodie? Not sure if I am comfortable with Feaster playing hardball with Brodie, out of all our defensive prospects who are knocking on the door, are any of them considered a puck moving defence man?

Typically when bubble NHLers reject a QO it is because the QO is a 2 way contract and the player wants a 1 way.
Pure speculation but Bancks may also want to explore opportunities with other organizations.

It may also have to do with AHL compensation. The AHL club has a budget, but I'd imagine a tweener guy wants to make sure he gets taken care of should he not make the crowded NHL roster.

Backlund, Breen, Butler, Billins, Bouma, Byron... leaving Bancks & Brodie to sign from the killer Bs. Bonkers.

I still don't really see Byron as a regular in the NHL. However, if he manages to keep developing, he may prove me wrong. He is fast enough and has a very good work-ethic, so regardless of his NHL upside, he is a very good presence to have down on the Heat.
Bouma was highly regarded by his team mates on the Giants. Good leadership ability. Decent 2-way play with some grit. I still unsure what he really brings on the Flames, but hopefully this season he will get a chance to show management why he belongs on the big club.
Interesting that Bancks has seemingly rejected his qualifying offer. Perhaps they have agreed to it in principle, and are just waiting to sign it? I definitely want him signed and back on the Heat, and maybe given the 'C'. I can't think of another Heat player that is as much of a 'heart and soul' guy. I can't see him turning down the QO, but I guess we will know soon enough.

Bouma's fully recovered from injury. By April already he was doing drills with the coaches after regular practice with no pads. He was making hard turns and his skating looked fine. (By the way, the guy is jacked. He's built like a sh*t brick house). Glad they got him under contract. I think he'll be on the Flames fourth line to start the season.
Byron is still a hell of an AHL player. Glad to have him back with the Heat. Ward's said on several occasions that he's essentially the motor for his team. He's the guy who often sets the pace for the game. Plus, he's decent offensively.
I hope Bancks and the Flames end up coming to some sort of agreement. He's the heart and soul of the Heat and has been basically been the captain for the last three years. Man, I hope he comes back.

Uhhh... This guy does not deserve a C over the likes of Ben Street and possibly others. Furthermore, this guy is lucky just getting a qualifying offer. There were big expectations of or "hope" for Bancks, even from myself, all of which has disapeared..

Also in regards to Bouma: He's very versatile. He can play LW, RW, or C. In fact, he played a lot of RW with the Heat.

I disagree. He's a leader through and through. Ben Street's a good AHL player, but there's been zero indication that he can be a vocal leader and captain at the American league level like Bancks can.

I guess in the interests of this thread, if we didn't pick up Byron AND we delt Jackman, we'd an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick!

Plz tell more, how did he look playing RW? is he comfortable?
Galiardi-Knight-Horak
Jones-Reinhart-Bouma
as the bottom 6? Lotsa sandpaper, some skill from the 3rd line, certainly some toughness too. Size as well, all are over 6 feet.

I'm guessing you mean David Jones? If so, he should be penciled on the 3rd line rather than 4th and on the RW.

Who says Feaster is playing hardball with Brodie? That's a big assumption that isn't really supported by anything I've read or seen.
He'll get signed. Still got what, almost two months to training camp?

I would have agreed with you a year ago, but that lost year of play is going to hurt his chances. Not only did Bouma lose that year of development it allowed other players to chance to develop and surpass him on the depth chart. It is going to make camp interesting. Bouma will have to prove that he is still capable of being a 4th liner in the NHL and that it is better to give him the position over another player who has a much higher ceiling, like Horak or Reinhart, who would benefit more from playing in the NHL than in the AHL. Also, the additions of Granlund, Knight and Hanowski may force a Bouma off the team and back to the minors. Losing last year was very unfortunate for Bouma because it was his chance to solidify his spot as a roster player. Now he's got more guys to compete with, many of which have way more talent.
I believe this is his last chance with the Flames. They have just too many players coming in that will make Bouma expendable. Next year will be worse when they add Agostino, Arnold and possibly Gaudreau to the mix. Too many bodies and not enough slots. Unless there is some serious movement on the roster takes place I don't know where Bouma plays or whose spot he takes away.

I meant Blair Jones, he can take the FOs and Max play center on that line.
David Jones will be playing top 6 next year.
