Brown at $5.75m is pretty good value when you consider Clarkson got $5.25m per.

Fair deal if it were 5 or 6 years at that price.
But I think they are going to regret this in the last few years.

Dustin Brown's #LAKings contract breakdown: $7.25M, $7.25M, $7M, $6.5M, $5.5M, $5.5M, $4M and $4M.
Essentially paying him a little over 6M for the first 6 years which everybody would consider a 'good' contract, with an extra 2 years tacked on at 4M which isn't bad by the point for your captain.

It's a reasonable contract.

Every time a club offers an 8 year extension, god gives an NHLer a head injury.
Gonna be an ugly season.

His last contract was a pretty good hometown discount.
Dustin Brown is such a strong character guy, a team first guy. I can see Lombardi wanting to lock him up and have him retire a King. It's very rare you have a player come in to the league at 18 and spend his entire career with one club. I wouldn't be surprised if Brown is that guy. He has committed himself not only to the Kings but to the entire community. I hope to be at his "Legends Night" in 20 years.

as much as I like Brown this is way too long a contract.
I don't want to see him end up like another Gomez, Redden, Holik, flash in the pan type player.
The style he plays doesn't tend to last a long time before the body breaks down and you are no longer capable of competing at that level.

He negotiated this deal himself; I wonder about NMCs?

I wouldn't sign any player for 8 years. Too much can change

I think that Brown has lots of talent, and toughness. He is a good captain, and has experience. I think that 5.75 is a good deal for him

A good deal. I assume that the NTC probably expires or becomes limited in the last 2 years of the deal. At which time he can be traded to a budget team who gets a 6 million dollar cap hit for 4 million dollars.
I like this deal and would be happy to have it.

Bettman was right on the money saying 5 year contracts should be the max. Hopefully the owners keep chipping away at max contract length.
