Overrated is one thing but Waters is talking him down like he's a scrub. I think the Phaneuf haters simply run with any nuggets put him in a poor light regardless of the source which is frikking Bill Watters for crying out loud. I'll rest my case on the source is to Toronto fans what Francis is here. In fact Leafs fans dislike him far more than Flames fans dislike Francis. Heck even the Leafs banned him from their facilities.

Dion Phaneuf isn't for everyone it seems but what did he do to Flames fans to deserve all the dislike? It's not his fault the GM hired a head coach that completely destroyed his development. He's not a perfect guy but I don't ever remember him saying a bad thing about the Calgary Flames or the fans and hoping for him to fail just to make that poor trade look somewhat less embarrassing for Flames fans is petty. I'll reserve my dislike for players that diss the organization but not ones that didn't.

I didn't know General Managers have any say on who's going to be the captain of the team. I thought that was the head coaches' decision sometimes getting some inputs from the players.

Phaneuf's off-ice antics aside, the fact that hes overpaid aside, Elisha Cuthbert seems like a genuinely nice person and I hope that this is one of the, admittedly few, celebrity couples that makes it.

Dion isnt a great Dman but hes a good player who was overpaid by a man in a position of power who liked him. The blame falls on Sutter for a crazy contract and Dion for never living up to it. For whatever reason.

I cheered for Sutter to win a cup. He won it.

I will not cheer for Dion to win a cup. Primarily because Iggy deserves it more and secondarily because Toronto should never win a Cup again. Ever. Its unfortunate that he plays for Toronto, but thems the breaks.

In my opinion, Dion is a victim of circumstance. Then again, he landed Elisha Cuthbert, so hes won the lottery already.

Whether you're into advance stats or not, the simple fact of the matter is that Dion DOES NOT suck. While I say that, I also will say he's not the equivalent of Weber or Seabrook (and others) either. He's a really good d-man who's likely overpaid on his current contract by a million-ish (this, of course, is debatable).
