ya, if i'm the oilers, i'm giving up some of the farm to get this guy.

one of their young guys (gagne, yakupov, eberle + shultz) should get it done. it might have to be yakupov since he's still on a cheaper contract than the other forwards.

oilers getting a true #1 dman makes them a low playoff seed contender. With ference being the biggest improvement on their dcorpse, leaves them spinning their wheels as they have been for the past several years.

The thinking in St. Louis behind this signing is pretty easy to understand. Their big gritty teams of the last couple of years haven't gone deep in the playoffs, so the professional critics in St. Louis say - "we're too slow and don't have enough speed and skill".

The problem with critics, is that they're paid to criticize. So they'll always find fault with a team - no matter how good it is. Good GMs and coaches tune out the media and the armchair know-it-alls and build a team with a cohesive identity that will make the playoffs - then cross their fingers, hope to avoid injuries and go on a streak.

Yes, the Blues have gone backwards in terms of their personnel - but they're still very much a playoff lock.

How valuable an asset is identity?

The Flames from 2004 -2008 were not going to be outworked or out hit.... sort of like Sutter's 2011-13 Kings.
