He's a pretty good player and will probably fare well in the Wings system. Not a bad contract given this is not a day that value contracts are handed out.

I thought he might be worth a look, but I'm glad Flames didn't take a run at him for that price.

I wouldn't mind if the Flames kick the tires on Brunner or Flippula.

Detroit gets significantly better adding Weiss and Alfredsson IMO. One more blueliner and they are back in contender status IMO.

That's not a bad contract at all. Seems like fair value for a 1b center. He's a 20 goal scorer on a terrible team that plays a lot of defense. I think he does well on the red wings.

I'm glad we didn't jump in as we need to wait a few years before doing this type of deal but he is a nice piece.

true! Still I didn't think that guys who had a pretty bad year would get that kind of term today ... but I stand corrected, as Weiss and Clowe both got 5 year deals. I guess some team will give that kind of term to Filppula, too.

That seems like a lot of $$ and term for Weiss to me.

Edit: so they paid more for Weiss than NJ did for Clowe? Nuff said
