Got a kick out of Twitter this morning with all the hockey writers acting baffled at this - as if their the one that didn't fart.

It was like if they signed into Twitter to chime in about the Ovi thing, they were absolved of any wrongdoing. Pretty funny.

Hard to take these 'All Star' teams too seriously.
He had a great season, and was the lone bright spot on a mediocre Ducks defensive core. Not surprised at all he would make the all-star team, especially when guys like Weber and Chara had off years.

Absolutely, that was complete BS that year and still bugs me to this day, iggys flames resume should have included a cup and a Hart trophy. The details of the voting of these clowns reveals the East Coast bias I always suspected they had.

So apparently 6 different players got voted for both wings!

Rick Nash - Left Wing 10-27-23
Rick Nash - Right Wing 0-1-0

Patrick Kane - Left Wing 1-0-0
Patrick Kane - Right Wing 36-63-68

James Neal - Left Wing 0-0-1
James Neal - Right Wing 0-0-6

Pascal Dupuis - Left Wing 0-1-0
Pascal Dupuis - Right Wing 0-4-10

Martin St. Louis - Left Wing 1-0-0
Martin St. Louis - Right Wing 36-74-38

and then also Ovechkin

This is totally unacceptable and frankly kind of embarrassing on the league. I know some might call it an over reaction but this is the way major awards are tallied up also! This might be a minor thing being named to an allstar team but winning a major award is huge to a players career in opinion. I understand that many players if they lose out on the hart or norris will just announce that those awards dont matter its just the cup that matters in the end. However when it comes to the hall of fame dont we fans and media always debate personal achievements on one of the criteria of getting in? Anyways long story short this might be a small thing t some but it has shown a glaring hole in a very flawed system for what to me anyways is an important item of integrity for the league.

For example: Ray Emery got more votes than Carey Price for the goaltender spot on the allstar teams. I understand Emery played well but being a backup and having more points than a goalie who got 2nd place in the conference?!

These are the same people who vote for the Veznia Trophy are they not?

edit: I guess Emery was 17-1 but I still think I have a point!

On top of that, this could have had huge financial implications as well. Luckily didn't or this becomes a bit more of just a minor embarrassment. Even though I'm sure most people wouldn't lose sleep over a millionaire hockey player not receiving an exta million, that very easily could have been the case for Hall.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...1-million.html

Hall would receive a bonus of 2M (before being pro-rated for the shorten season) had he been in the top 10 for assists or been named to one of the two All-Star teams. It was only during the last game of the season that he managed to sneak into the top 10 with 2 assists against the Canucks. Had Vancouver shut him out, he would have been out a ton of cash because of voter incompetence.

Norris, Hart, Lady Byng, Calder, Conn Smythe, Masterson, and Selke. I believe.

Vezina is voted by GM, Jack Adams by broadcasters, Lindsay by the players and most importantly Mark Messier Leadership Award is awarded by Messier himself.

Well those are pretty important trophies I would say. I dont know, I dont think Im overreacting at all. After this has come to light I honestly feel like the so called "experts" in the media are not qualified to be making such decisions. I really hope this becomes bigger news and a bigger issue because its quite frankly pretty bad that decisions re being made this way. Prime example the Iginla case being described a few posts above. Just looking at the voting with some players getting votes it really obvious to see some "homer" votes from the writers. I hope this becomes a bigger issue within the hockey community.

Mark Spector is executive director of the PHWA. Nuff said.

I give him credit for jumping out and responding to this asap today with strong words for his members, but seriously... if that guy is running the ship, it explains a lot.

Beauchemin had a great year in regards to +/-............otherwise, was he that great? Weber had an 'off' year but still still had more goals and points. Actually, Beauchimen was 20th in d-men scoring. Was he that unbelievable defensively that he warranted 2nd team all-star consideration? Chara, Markov, Kronwall, etc.....so many players I would take before him this season.

Really, anything the PHWA votes on should be transparent. Publish the damned ballots already so we know who these jokers are voting Pat Kane for Selke.

Some player bonuses are linked to being on the All-Star team, they have to remain strict on the rules, the writers vote is final. Changing the players who are on the All-Star team could cost players/teams a lot of money.
