Decent write up...boom or bust kind of player that played on a weak Brandon team with a drop in forward skill from last year.

Sounds like a good pick up. Don't know anything about him. Anybody know why he fell? Bad D, off ice issues?

Great upside here. Defensive deficiencies? Well, mid-late round picks generally need a lot of development time. Brodie wasn't such a good defensive defencemen either, but look at him playing in the NHL now.

Offensive instincts are harder to teach I think. Hopefully his next season goes much better, but this could very well be a nice steal.

In terms of style, Roy is reminiscent of Sheldon Souray. However this is a stylistic comparison and not one based on potential. In terms of potential, Roy could become an effective two way, top 4 defenceman, who can also be a strong powerplay weapon. He is very much a boom or bust type of pick. He has a ton of tools, but also has some areas that really need improvement.
Sounds good for a 5th round pick.

Not a bad selection for a 5th rounder.

This is the pick we got for Blake Comeau.

We've already won.

Roy is ranked 71st on Corey Pronman's Top 100 NHL Draft prospects list and had this to say about him:

After an impressive 17-year-old season, Roy took a step backwards in his 18-year-old campaign with Brandon. He has some abilities with which to work, but there are a number of areas that he needs to address if he is to succeed as a pro.

The good: Roy is an above-average skater who is mobile in every direction, and he skates well for a bigger player. He has significant offensive upside, evident in his 53 points in 69 games last season.

The bad: his defense, his decision making with the puck, and his physical game. One scout said that he is lost in his own end, and another said that he struggles with pace, turnovers, and trying to do too much. These issues and consequential risks make Roy a long-term prospect, should he pan out.

Every scout I talk to echoes the exact same thing as Pronman mentions above: Roy has tremendous offensive tools and upside, but looks lost when tasked to play defence - which ironically is also what his position is called.

We could have drafted a malignant tumour and won this deal.

Great pick for the fifth round. Some big upside here... much prefer this pick to the hulk taken in the third.

Great articles you guys posted. Anytime a player can end up on our laps after falling out of 1st round contention, I'll take that 7 days a week. Maybe his slightly poorer season will end up working in our favor. It clearly scared a few teams off, but then again everyone has bad seasons. Even though he's a 5th round pick, its my uneducated opinion that we might have found ourselves a steal!

Brandon lost all their top forwards and are rebuilding.

It's called brutal team syndrome, his goal total went up(tied for team lead) but lost a lot of assists. I would imagine loosing the 88 goals that Stone and Ferland scored has a lot to do with it.

Good looking pick.

When you go from a good team to a crap team, it means there aren't as many assists to pick up. He had more goals but his assists were cut in half. That speaks more to the talent around him rather then to individual regression.

As well they talk about turnovers and doing too much, that as well can be caused by having an inept team. Being coached properly can help him in his own end.

I was kind of hoping we'd draft him. There was a thread about him on my Facebook page. I thought he'd go in the third round though.
