I thought compliance buyouts were to be paid at full cost, but I just read that they follow the same 1/3 or 2/3 rules as regular buyouts... (Gomez and redden were full cost for this season).

I think that is lame.

Gomez and Redden were the exceptions because NHLPA did not want them to sit out the year.

I have a question, apologies if already answered but I don't think so. How does this work with just re-negotiating contracts lower, like Turek did with the Flames. That way you can keep your guy and don't need to buy him out if both team and player don't want the relationship to end? This is still ok no?

No, got rid of Contract Restructuring in 2004 lockout.
