So long as he signs, this does nothing but strengthen the prospect pool. Good stuff!

Awesome news.

This is not overpayment. 4th round picks usually don't even become AHLers. From the sounds of it, this guy is already good enough to play in the NHL.

Knight is a 22 year old center who put up 16 goals and 49 points in 41 games in his final year at UND

From the other thread this is excellent news. You know apart from that whole openly bashing the Flames and being a Canuck fan thing....

#Flames can now exclusively negotiate with Knight before he would go through the UFA loophole in August.

Nice! 4th is easily fair value, IMO.

I suppose there could have been a bidding war with the Canucks, but still seems odd to give up this much.

Feels nice to be on this side of an Erixon-ing.

Hopefully he won't be able to keep that "prospect" label for very long. Feaster is already painting the picture of him with the big team in the fall in the press release.

Solid move by the Flames now they just have to sign him.

Knight isn't a fifth round pick. He was a fifth round pick. He is a player who put up 49 points in 41 games at UND.

A centre that WINS faceoffs, he's big and high hockey IQ! I still can't believe the FLAMES acquired him

Has the potential to make the Flames tougher and more annoying to play against... plus judging by his NCAA stats, he can play a little hockey too (even if he just wins face offs and finish checks).

Best FO% in the NCAA and is a 6'2, 210 lbs center... just what we needed.

If signed, Corban Knight would be a top 3 prospect in CGY's system. My write up on him here: http://www.hockeyprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=355

5th or 6th rounder would have been a little better, but like others are saying, maybe this is just greasing the wheels for another trade. A "move-up-in-the-draft-and-get-MacKinnon" type trade.

So what's the reason why we can't sign him until July?

I'm actually a little surprised anyone would consider this overpayment.

I originally thought it would have taken at least a mid-3rd rounder to get it done. This is an excellent trade.
